Celebrity MAN-icurist (read: nail pro) Tom Bachik has hooked up with Tweezerman on an Ultimate Nail Care Set that holds all the must-haves to keep nails looking picture perfect. We chatted with Tom to get his top tips on keeping our talons looking lit. —Vita Daily
Hi Tom! Please tell us a bit about yourself to start?
I’m married with three children. I’ve been a licensed nail artist for almost 30 years and have been working with celebrities for over 20. I have been deeply involved in both the professional and consumer nail care industries with roles including product development, marketing, sales and education.
Congrats on the return of the Tweezerman x Tom Bachik Ultimate Nail Care Set! How did this partnership come about, and why was it a perfect fit for you?
I’ve had Tweezerman tools in my kit since the beginning of my career. I’ve had a personal relationship with Tweezerman for over five years now. Tweezerman was looking toward the professional/expert to bring world-class education to their high-quality tools. This is how our partnership begin. It has evolved over the last five years and grown into a collaboration of both tools and education techniques. I’ve always loved both the affordable price but more importantly the high quality of Tweezerman tools. So getting the opportunity to collaborate with them was a perfect fit.
What is included in the set? Who is it for?
The Tom Bachik X Tweezerman ultimate nail care kit Includes everything you need to do a professional manicure and pedicure properly at home. Inside the kit you will find a fingernail clipper toenail clipper a mini cuticle nipper which is perfect when you’re on the go and you don¹t have a lot of space to carry your full kit. The rock-hard cuticle nipper a newly designed pushy and nail cleaner plus a nail file and nail buffer to bring your nails to an amazing high shine.
What are your top dos and don’ts for at-home nail care?
Don’t start in the centre of your nail when using your fingernail or toenail clipper. Do start by clipping one side of the nail then the other and finally the centre of the nail to create shape and determine length. This will help illuminate stress to the natural nail and help prevent splitting. Don’t force the cuticle back when using a pusher. Do use gentle circular motions to push back cuticle and reveal excess cuticle. Remember the cuticle is there to protect the area where nail cells grow and we must be careful not to be too aggressive. Don’t cut too close to the living skin when using your rock hard or mini cuticle nipper. Do remove only excess cuticle or bits and pieces of dead skin such as hangnails. Over cutting could lead to sore cuticles or bleeding.
What are the top trends you are seeing in nail art for fall, winter, holidays and the new year?
For fall we’re seeing a continuance from summer nail trends. Such as fluid abstracts and swirls, mix matched colours or hombre sets and hombre french manicures only in more earthy fall tones. And a big trend with my clients is the American manicure, which is a softer more subtle take on the French manicure or tone on tone French manicures such as dark and baby blue bright and soft pink deep purples and lavenders, etc. For winter and holiday plan on deep rich tones in both earthy shades such as dark chocolate, brick reds, and mossy greens. Plus dark jewel tones like blackened purple, burgundy, Bordeaux and rich navy shades. Plan on seeing pops of colour, metallic accents such as chromes, glitters and shimmers. The use of small gems and minimalistic accent nails will be big for holiday!
