Now in its 16th year, Pink Shirt Day, coming up on February 23, puts the spotlight squarely on the fight against bullying.
This year, Toys “R” Us has designed a shirt, available for purchase in-store or online for pick up in-store only here, that focuses on the idea of kindness. $1 from each sale of the shirt will be donated to Kids Help Phone (up to $5,000), which works to change and save children’s lives by working to create a safer, more equitable and inclusive environment free from bullying, that allows kids to be kids. Some key stats from Kids Help Phone:
- Since March 2020, Kids Help Phone provided service over 9.6 million times, saving lives every single day.
- In 2021, every day over 1,100 young people reach out to Kids Help Phone via text, phone and live chat services alone.
- Kids Help Phone is Canada’s only 24-7 e-mental health service offering free, confidential support to young people in English and French.
- In December, 45 per cent of texting conversations related to bullying happened with people ages 5 to 13.
- In December, 32 per cent of texting conversations related to bullying occurred between 8 p.m. and 12 a.m.
