Grace Lee Talks Spring 2022 Beauty Trends

March 30, 2022

Spring has sprung! And who better to fill us in on the season’s top beauty trends than Maybelline New York’s official makeup artist Grace Lee? Let’s skip the small talk and get right to it! —Noa Nichol

Hi Grace! Spring is (finally!) in the air! It feels like people are ready to shed both the winter and the pandemic blues this year. That said, what’s on your radar in terms of top spring beauty trends?

Spring beauty trends for me are coral red lips, glossy or matte; washes of pastels on the eyes; and dewy highlighted skin.

Can you give us tips or steps on achieving one of your fave spring makeup looks?

You can never go wrong with beautiful dewy highlighted skin. Maybelline has this new Green edition tinted oil that is amazing for this skin. You can use it all over or also just use it as a highlighter in the high planes of your face. It gives off the perfect amount of “dew”. It gives a slight coverage which is sheer but if you want more coverage, you can always add a few drops into your regular foundation as well. Pair this with a bright coral red lipstick and it’s the perfect spring combo.

How do you suggest we maximize spring beauty behind our face masks?

Wear things that will last under the masks like longwear lipstick, foundation and concealer. You cannot beat the staying power of Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink lipsticks. There is also a new Superstay Active Wear Concealer that lasts up to 30 hours! Also with mask wearing, this is a perfect chance to amp up your eyes. More mascara. Liner and perfect time to try washes of pastels on the eyes!

“Fresh and clean” always seems to be a spring beauty theme; do you have advice to keep things breezy yet beautiful this season?

Keep things minimal. You don’t have to do a full face of makeup. Focus on one feature. Lip or eyes and always keep the skin looking hydrated and moisturized.

Looking to summer, what are some upcoming makeup trends we haven’t seen before or can look forward to?

A take on more graphic and bold eyeliners whether it’s “euphoria” inspired or just more graphic than usual. Like a liner in the crease and or paired with a stroke of glitter or a dab of it in the corner of the eyes. The take is that it’s more playful and more adventurous!
