While summer seems to be taking its sweet time here on the west coast (they don’t call it Raincouver for nothing), that doesn’t mean we’re not taking advantage of the warmer weather to get outdoors. Below are some of our choice picks for outdoor gear to get us out and about this summer. —Vicki Duong
kodiak boots. The first step, literally, to the perfect outdoor fit is a good pair of hiking boots. One of our fave brands is Kodiak Boots, a Canadian brand designed with all-terrain in mind. We’ve been loving the Kenosee Mid-Cut Waterproof Hiker ($170), a boot made with recycled materials and genuine suede while a thick rubber sole helps aid grip and keeps every stride comfy.
osprey. Get ready to take on the great outdoors with everything you need, comfortably organized and easy to access with this Osprey Tempest 20 backpack ($120). Made with ultra-durable nylon, this bag features multiple compartments and a continuous-wrap harness and help belt for extra support and security.
lifestraw. While staying hydrated on-the-go is of the uppermost importance, some water bottles are better suited for the outdoors than others. When it comes to clean drinking water, LifeStraw is the authority with their innovative filtration system that protects from bacteria, parasites, microplastics, chlorine, organic chemical matter, dirt, sand, and cloudiness. Sip comfortably and confidently with their stainless steel bottle ($80) that also keeps your water cold for hours!
nobis. When it comes to outdoor wear, versatility is key, especially when the weather can be unpredictable. The Evo Performance Zip Sweater ($595) from Nobis is a wardrobe staple for us. With a water-resistant fill and Merino wool trim, this sleek sweater is great on its own or as a layering piece.
on. While some of us would prefer to stay indoors when it’s rainy, there are options for trail runners who don’t mind getting a little bit wet during their outing. The Cloudventure Waterproof trainer ($210) from On have you set because it is 100% waterproof and windproof, plus an ultra flexible sole provides grip, even when slippery.
north face. Long-haired outdoor enthusiasts rejoice with this top knot bucket hat ($40) from The North Face. The open design allows for your ponytail or top knot to sit comfortable atop your head while a wide adjustable brim keeps your eyes and face protected from the sun. No bad days here!
smartwool. While a good pair of boots make taking on the trails more manageable, combining your footwear with a suitable pair of socks ensures all day performance and comfort. These Smartwool hiking socks ($28) feature mesh panels for breathability, Merino wool for warmth and a light cushion along the sole for extra padding.
moose knuckles. Ideal for days when it’s brisk but not too cold, this ultra-light and water-resistant jacket ($390) from Moose Knuckles suits a variety of forecasts with a relaxed fit and adjustable waist and cuffs and a roomy hood allows you to customize your fit and lock in warmth.
hunter. While some adventures require a backpack full of supplies, other treks aren’t as strenuous and require something more compact. For our more casual strolls, we adore this Hunter bag ($95) that is highly water-resistant and can be worn as a belt bag, crossbody bag or even as a top-handle bag for added versatility.
leki. Finding the right tools to support your trail walking can ensure a low-impact adventure while keeping your joints supported. We’ve been loving these Trekking Poles ($320) from Leki made with high-quality carbon and an inclined angel grip support for wrist support, even on the rockiest terrains.
