It might have been a late arrival, but it finally feels like summer is here on the West Coast. What does that mean for an updated beauty routine? Well for me, that means focusing on keeping my skin sun-safe, my tresses ready to take on the extra humidity and my makeup sweat-proof. Below are some of my fave new discoveries of the month. —Vicki Duong
miracle 10. Catch up on your beauty sleep while repairing your skin’s natural barrier by using a night cream. Lately the Veil ($79) from Miracle 10. With a blend of niacinamide to target breakouts, BHA to treat excess oil and hyaluronic acid for moisture retention this cream truly is a do-it-all wonder. Plus, the lightweight formula sinks into your skin quickly and leaves no greasy residue.
spot my UV. Staying sun-safe has never been easier with this innovative patch from Spot my UV. This easy-to-use sticker ($14 for a 12 pack) is placed wherever your skin is exposed to the sun’s harmful rays prior to sunscreen application that turns bright purple when it’s time to apply sunscreen, and clear when you’re, well, in the clear.
coco & eve. With excess time spent in the sun, keeping our skin hydrated is of the utmost importance. I’ve been loving the Body Moisture Whip ($50) from Coco and Eve, a buttery body moisturizer crafted with coconut oil that aids in smoothing your skin while being fast-absorbing and rich in antioxidants to improve skin texture and tone.
fenty beauty. Chapped lips are the things of the past thanks to Rihanna’s newest lip oil, Cherry Treat Oil ($31). This lightly cherry-scented oil leaves a glossy finish while deeply nourishing your peckers. Plus it’s glossy finish makes it the ideal topper over your fave matte lipsticks to amp up the shine.
hairstory. Have you ever tried co-washing? It’s a popular hair washing practice for those with curly hair or extremely dry hair where a specialty conditioner is used to cleanse and hydrate your hair simultaneously, no shampoo needed. It can also be a method to help refresh your scalp health. My go-to as of late is the New Wash ($59) from Hairstory, a detergent-free and creamy formula available in three different formulations depending on your needs.
regimen lab. When it comes to skincare, Regimen Lab has it down to a science, literally. Their lab-based formulas provide everything you need without extra non-essential fluff. One of my new fave discoveries is their Tubula Rasa ($19) , a cleanser that deeply cleans your skin without stripping your pores. Formulated, tested and manufactured in Canada, this gentle foaming cleanser has quickly become a skincare staple in my routine.
oribe. The combination of high temps and humidity can leave my hair feeling flat and lacking movement. Fret not, Oribe’s Grandious Hair Plumping Mousse ($48) is here to take your tresses to new heights. Not only does it help pump up the volume, but it’s designed to thicken each strand while also protecting your locks from heat damage.
kylie cosmetics. The latest trend on TikTok is all about blush. Midtone blushing to be specific. It involves using a pale blush to marry your blush to your under-eye brightener to give you a natural looking finish. The powder blush shade, Winter Kissed ($23) from Kylie Cosmetics is the perfect light cool-toned pink layers seamlessly with your complexion products.
lush. If you’re opting for short-shorts and mini skirts this summer you may find yourself battling the annoying thigh-rub friction that can occur. Thankful, Lush has a range of dusting powders to keep your sweat at bay while adding a touch of softness to your skin. My personal fave is Sleepy ($13), a sweet lavender scented powder.
amika. Add beachy waves to any look, even without the beach with Amika’s new High Tide Deep Tide Jumbo Waver ($156). The larger than life barrels make it easy to create the perfect amount of volume to your hair, while cool tips at the end of each rod makes for convenient styling. Best of all? There’s an automatic 30-minute shut off, so worry not if you can’t remember if you turned off your styling tools on your way out the door.
