The Dos & Don’ts Of Vitamin C

August 25, 2022

Glowing, radiant skin is always in. That said, Canadian beauty brand Watier is launching a new Sublimessence High Brightening Vitamin C Serum featuring powerful antioxidants and natural Canadian ingredients (think Boreal white pine extract and Labrador tea extract), plus 20 per cent stabilized vitamin C, to help diminish the appearance of dark spots and hyperpigmentation, smooth skin and boost its glow for luminous, hydrated, and healthier-looking skin. Here are some vitamin C use dos and don’ts. —Vita Daily

  • Since Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant, be sure to test on a small area of face 2 to 3 times before applying to entire face.
  • Apply daily in the morning or apply at night to cleansed skin before your regular skincare routine and be sure to always follow with SPF in the morning.
  • Vitamin C is sensitive to light and air, so store in a cool dark place, like the refrigerator, to preserve its shelf life and avoid oxidization.
  • It should be colourless or a light straw colour; if it’s oxidized, it turns yellow or brown and won’t be as effective.
  • Apply vitamin C serum in the AM, and other harsher serums in the PM. Applying multiple serums at the same time cause irritation. For example, vitamin C and retinol should not be applied together.
  • Keep in mind the Thinnest-to-Thickest rule: first apply your Watier Sublimessence High Brightening Vitamin C Serum, followed by heavier products, like moisturizer.
