We’ve waxed poetic on the benefits of hydrotherapy before, but what if you don’t know what to, well, do? This season, Scandinave Spa welcomes guests to master the art of relaxation with Montreal-based spa ambassador and Scandinave Spa’s first official hydrotherapy guide, Scott Simons.
The free 40-minute experience will be offered in Whistler on Saturday, October 15 at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.; on Sunday, October 16 at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.; and on Monday, October 17 at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Scandinave baths access or massage booking is required to participate in this guided experience and the group will be capped at 12 participants per session.
“We are thrilled to welcome Scott Simons to Whistler to help launch guided hydrotherapy at our spa,” says Simmone Lyons, spa director at Scandinave Spa Whistler. “We look forward to offering these sessions on a regular basis to help our guests achieve a deeper level of relaxation during their wellness adventure with us.”
Under Scott’s expert guidance spa guests will surrender their bodies and minds to 15 minutes in the Finnish dry sauna and a sustained immersion in a cold plunge pool. Through the session Simons will share how to control the breath and respect optimal times at each step for maximum health benefits. After, a group meditation will close the experience allowing the body to integrate the physical gains from the thermal therapy while letting the nervous system settle and the mind to centre on the present moment.
The combination of the supervised hydrotherapy and meditation will allow guests to fully experience the immersive and intense journey of the Scandinavian baths, an experience that requires more concentration and courage than one might think. After the guided session, guests, can continue their spa journey as they wish with massage therapy or with more unstructured time in the Scandinavian baths so they can unwind further.
Scott is a corporate wellness concierge and Scandinave Spa Group’s first hydrotherapy guide. Simons inspires healthy lifestyles through his company Organik, which he founded in 2002 and he has accumulated more than 2000 hours of training as a yoga teacher, meditation teacher, health coach and personal trainer.
Scandinave Spa Group launched these guided hydrotherapy sessions in February 2022, holding the first event at their Old Montreal location. Both Scandinave Spa Old Montreal and Scandinave Spa Mont Tremblant are looking forward to offering more events with Scott this fall, and the updated calendar can be found here. —Vita Daily
