Ofie Play Mats: Kid-Friendly Meets Modern

November 1, 2022

In 2016, parents Tao Guo and Jaclyn Wang were faced with an interior design dilemma when they had their son, Owen: the couple couldn’t find any neutral-hued, modern-looking play mats that complemented the aesthetic of their Calgary home. So, they started Little Bot Baby, and a collection of kids’ play mats that are cushioned and cute, but also chic enough to effortlessly fit into a design-forward nursery,  living room—or any room, really, because we all know how kids can take over!

“We appreciate simple and charming designs that add flavour to the home but are not overpowering,” explains co-founder Tao, who credits his wife, Jaclyn, as a superwoman: she designs the mats as a passion project while also working a day job as a lawyer. “We take inspiration from current trends in home décor, in Canada and beyond.” The duo did their product research, and landed on a non-toxic, double-sided, soft-to-the-touch, and easily cleanable play mat that tots and parents alike would love. (The name Ofie was inspired by their son, Owen—“O”—and a girl’s name they loved, Sophie—“fie”.)

Cushier underfoot than many other brands on the market, the Ofie mat is available in a handful of out-of-the-box designs. Choose from Scandinavian-simple prints like Triangle (their best-seller), botanically inspired Plants, or the fun-loving Country Road design—little hands will especially love to move toy cars and trucks along the built-in track pattern. In the next few months, keep an eye out for Little Bot’s brand new mat design, an as-of-yet-unannounced collaboration with Random House on a much-loved children’s book series. –Katie Nanton
