How To Style A Thrifted Novelty Cardigan 3 Ways

February 15, 2023

Novelty Cardigans are having a real moment right now. Is it a trend? Yes. Could it also be a classic staple, statement piece in your wardrobe? Also, yes. If you’re a susty babe looking to save some cash on this style, why not go thrift it? Thrifting a trend is a great way to keep your style game strong all while sourcing something that isn’t a carbon copy of what everyone else is wearing. Embrace your uniqueness and find that cardigan that calls to you. Find the one that works flawlessly in your existing wardrobe and can be worn many different ways.

Want some inspiration? I went to my local thrift shop to see what gems I could find. After an extensive search, I found this blue beauty. I loved the pattern, but the buttons had to go. I found some simpler buttons that were classic and gave the sweater a more modern feel. Also, don’t limit yourself to one season. It is still very much winter out there. As spring approaches, and our desire for more spring inspired looks grows, a colourful piece like this is something you can wear now and when the mercury starts to rise. Here are three looks I styled with my new-to-me thrifted novelty cardigan with both winter and spring in mind. —Jen Pistor

Look 1: The Thrifted Novelty Cardi with a thrifted long denim skirt. You can add tights for an extra layer of warmth. For an extra pop of colour, I added this thrifted yellow bag and finished off the look with a pair of light-coloured oxfords.

Look 2: The Thrifted Novelty Cardi with a pair of wide-leg pants. A simple slip-on shoe in the same hue as the pant elongates my legs. A functional and fashionable crossbody bag works seamlessly with the outfit. The finishing touch is a pair of vintage bubblegum pink earrings.

Look 3: I was thinking spring for this look. The Thrifted Novelty Cardi with a bright pinky-coral dress, blue tie-up shoes, a secondhand white leather bag, and a complimentary blue, patterned, statement earring.
