Hi Jamie! When and why did you launch RUBIES clothing?

RUBIES was born from a personal journey with my trans-daughter Ruby. In 2019 we were getting ready for a family holiday and she was struggling to find something comfortable that she could wear to the beach. There weren’t great options out there which inspired me to create something for her. From there, RUBIES, an ultra-comfortable line of shaping bottoms and swimwear for trans-girls and women was born.

What niche were/are you aiming to fill?

We wanted to provide products to trans-girls and women that were comfortable and form-fitting but also stylish. The designs are unique, fun and feel-good.

What products do you offer through RUBIES, and what makes them unique?

It offers guidance, recommends local resources and healthcare providers, and can explain complex situations in a caring and understandable way. The Chatbot can also communicate in all languages. The Chatbot is best suited to answer questions related to gender identity, gender affirming options and how to support loved ones.

What do you hope to accomplish through the RUBIES Gender Journey ChatBot?

I wanted to provide a resource for parents looking to learn how to better understand and support their child’s experience. Using Generative AI was a great way to provide something that could be accessed anonymously by anyone and communicate in all languages. I also wanted to show how this technology can be used as a source of good. My hope is that this AI Chatbot will continue to grow and develop over time to support parents, children and allies, creating a deeper understanding and compassion for the LGBTQ+ community.

How can families, friends and caregivers can become better allies to create a more supportive and accepting environment for all LGBTQ+ youth?

Here are my top three tips:

• Educate yourself, take the time to learn about LGBTQ+ identities, issues and experiences
• Use affirming language like correct pronouns and names for people
• Stand up for others. If you witness discrimination or prejudice against LGBTQ+ people, speak up and stand up against it. This can help create a safer and more inclusive community for everyone.
