Take me out to the ballgame, goes the song, and then what’s next? Buying some peanuts and Cracker Jacks because eating at a baseball game is half the fun even if you are there to root for the home team. Here are the top five things to eat (and drink) at Roger’s Field at Nat Bailey Stadium. —Bronwyn Lewis
Hot dogs. A ballpark classic that comes in a range of sizes and varieties, with a selection of toppings. There is the regular sized hot dog, the Foot Long Dog, and finally the 3ft Yard Dog which is served in a special cardboard sleeve to support its length.
Poutine. The gravy is glossy and thick enough for good fry-coverage without being gloopy. The fries are fresh and crispy, and the poutine is even garnished with a little green onion which is a thoughtful extra touch.
Popcorn. It’s hard to resist the smell of freshly popped corn. The popcorn at Nat Bailey is buttery and well-salted. It makes for a great beer-drinking snack, and is perfect for sharing amongst a group.
Peanuts and Cracker Jack. You might as well take advantage of being able to discard your peanut shells at your feet, and Cracker Jack is such a classic that it is considered by some to be the first ever junk food.
The Keg Caesar. This Canadian cocktail comes in a cup rimmed with seasoned salt and is garnished with celery and a pickled bean. The Keg Caesar makes for a refreshing non-beer option.
