5 Canadian Brands Celebrating Sustainable Swimwear

June 26, 2023

Canada’s sustainable swimwear brands would agree: a bikini should last longer than just one season. Feel good about supporting these five local brands, with their high-quality swimwear made sustainably to move through all of summer’s adventures. —Julia Dumbrell

Londre’s beach dreams have inspired a movement. Motivated by Mother Earth, the Vancouver-based company creates flattering garments with the lowest possible impact. New for the summer, add their super-cute Rosettes to a suit like the Crossback One Piece, with both items handmade ethically from recycled plastic bottles ($38, $148).

Having opened their first storefront in downtown Vancouver, Nettle’s Tale proudly designs diverse swimwear to feel custom-made on all body types. They’ve introduced their 2023 Limited Edition Collection for the season, Pink Crush, with a vibrant design and various fits deepening on what’s most flattering for the model. Our favourite has to be the Cyd Top and matching Cheeky Bottoms, giving adjustability and support for any activities ($89).

The easy-to-care-for swimsuits from Vancouver’s Left on Friday are dedicated to active summer lovers. We particularly love the matching Sunday Top and Hi Tide Bottoms, made for activity in over 30 vibrant colours with a comfortable fit and smoothing dream fabric ($100).

Proudly made in Canada, Beth Richards sees each suit as an opportunity to change the way women feel about swimwear. Their newest launch includes the elegant Sophia One Piece, with a plunging v-neck and shoulder ruffle fit for the hotel pool ($260). Like all Beth Richards swimwear, the one piece is ethically and sustainably made, offsetting their environmental impact by donating 1% of profits for the planet.

Toronto’s BERLOOK was recently established to benefit women and the world, dedicated to bringing innovation and sustainability to Canadian-made swimwear. The company prides their designs on being timeless and versatile, launching styles that can be worn multiple ways. The gorgeous fabric on their new Floral Bikini Set will forever be vogue, made with recycled materials ($40).
