Top 5 Summer Cocktails In Vancouver

July 17, 2023

It’s summertime and the living is easy—and it’s even easier when you’ve got a cocktail in hand. Bartenders across Vancouver are shaking and stirring up some thirst-quenching summer cocktails, and here are our top five to try. —Bronwyn Lewis

The Guava Spritz at Tocador on Main Street. This easy sipping spritz is made with guava infused Aperol and house-made geranium perfume, and is topped with sparkling rosé as well as soda.

The Meadowland Tonic at Botanist. The bar at Botanist is arguably Vancouver’s best. It was the only one to receive the Exceptional Cocktail award by Michelin, and Jeff Savage has been named Bartender of the Year by Vancouver Magazine. The Meadowland Tonic is a grassy and floral summer cocktail made with elderflower, cherry blossom, green tea, and a wild rose tincture.

Alternative Medicine at Powell Street’s Straight and Marrow. Made with house-spiced rum, pineapple, coconut, citrus, and Fuego Syrup, this tiki-esque cocktail even comes in a skull shaped glass.

The Five Alive at Mount Pleasant Vintage & Provisions. Both of the slushies (the Space Wizard Sangria and the Frozen Vietnamese Coffee) deserve a shoutout but the Five Alive cocktail with Altos Blanco, Aperol, and Mandarin Sherbert quenches adult thirst with childhood juicebox nostalgia.

The Bao Bei Piña Colada. This iconic Vancouver cocktail is a classic. It promises on Bao Bei’s menu to be “the best frozen sissy drink you’ll ever have” and it delivers. There’s no slushie machine for these; Bao Bei’s bartenders blend them to order with plenty of ice and rum.
