From a successful day at the plant store with friends to an evening garden party, there seem to be endless reasons to drink in the summer. Take the day off alcohol by crafting clean, herby and refreshing mocktails instead. The three creations below are inspired by the seasonal herbs which many of us have growing in our backyards or kitchen windows this summer. Cheers to green thumbs and zero-proof summer days! —Julia Dumbrell
Minty Mock-Mojito
In a glass, muddle a few fresh mint leaves and the bright, citrusy juice of one lime. Then add a dash of sugar, ice and seltzer. Stir this mock-mojito up and sip away.
Pineapple Basil Blend
Until smooth, blend a handful of pineapple with a few leaves of basil, half of a juiced lemon and a dash of sugar. Add this concoction to a glass with ice cubes and soda to taste. Top the drink with a few basil leaves for the full zero-proof effect.
Garden Grapefruit Rosemary
Mix the juice of one grapefruit, a generous spoonful of sugar and soda over ice. Before sipping, step out to the garden and pull the most beautiful rosemary sprig, adding it to this mocktail for garnish and flavour.
