4 DYI Summer Activities For Parents & Toddlers

July 20, 2023

The sun during summertime brings us one key energetic thing: growth. This ripples into different layers of our lives such as relationships, career, and inner spiritual journey. Children in particular grow so much in the summer months. All of this growth propels us forward in holistic ways to keep us evolving and replenishing our energy field, which is the key to holding out through the winter months. Parents and toddlers experience so much internal and developmental growth when they do activities together. The four activities below are well rounded, entertaining holistic practices to nurture many aspects of this growth for both parent and toddler this summer. —Natalie Kehren

Farm visits. This experience allows parent and toddler to connect to mother nature in numerous ways. Through harvesting we can nourish the body with seasonal local fruits and vegetables. Most farms have family friendly events, play parks and opportunities to help feed the animals. Supporting local community farms is also a wonderful lesson promoting oneness.

Unplugging and recharging as a family. With all the growth and fun summer activities we can find ourselves in a place where it’s too busy, too fast. Heading to a remote place, away from the city and the usual day to day routine, allows parent and toddler to get that full recharge. Whether it be a camping trip, a cabin in the woods, or a small hotel in a remote spot, these locations help parent and toddler to ground and feel more connected. Unplugging and recharging during the toddler growth period cultivates additional connection.

Gardening. This is one of the highest forms of meditation we have available in our world. By touching the soil and nurturing life to grow through intention, parent and toddler are directly immersed in life force energy. By participating in a gardening practice daily or even weekly, we get infused with that energy and feel recharged and balanced. This is also a wonderful sensory activity for a toddler, in order to support their developmental phases. Just a little mess to clean at the end!

Intentional family meditation nature walks. Walking meditations, especially when done with intention, fuel both parent and toddler. There may be massive breakthroughs and energetic connections. Tip: remove your shoes, put your feet in the dirt and allow yourself to connect on a deeper level and soak in the benefits. Your child probably wants to be barefoot a lot of the time, and it is because they know how much better they feel when they do this! Give it a try with them.
