Canada And The Introduction Of Online Bingo

August 1, 2023

Bingo is a classic game that’s been enjoyed for centuries and can be a fantastic way to spend a few hours. Here’s all you need to know to get into the hobby.

For a relatively simple game, bingo has an extreme and enduring popularity. Hundreds of millions of people play the game in one form or another around the world, including Canada.

It’s not hard to see why: for a low cost of entry, bingo offers a fun, exciting way to spend a few hours alongside the anticipation of potentially winning. However, it can be intimidating for people who’ve never played before.

If you’re looking to try out bingo for the first time within Canada, you don’t need much; just an understanding of the rules and the will to play. Here’s everything you need to know to get started with bingo.

Delta Bingo will be sweeping the nation

For the first time, Ontario’s newly regulated iGaming market has allowed companies, Delta iGaming Inc. and Broadway Gaming to successfully create Delta Bingo online. A gaming platform where many bingo enthusiasts can come together and play their favourite games to compete for unique prizes.

In addition, Delta Bingo has signed a partnership with the Ontario Charitable Gaming Commission, allowing certain proceeds to aid not-for-profit organisations that provide specialised support and services to a wide range of different communities. This includes funds for families, youth, vulnerable individuals, education sectors, sports, culture and much more.

This initiative aligns itself with one of the main reasons as to why bingo has become so successful in Canada which is how the game allows to generate money for both local governments and charities. Ontario is a province which attains the highest bingo revenue with $1.1 billion in 1998, despite the mass closures of bingo halls, over $633 million was still amassed during the fiscal year of 2007/2008.

The bingo industry within Canada is beginning to shift towards online platforms as it has seen the lucrative benefits of what gaming can offer to consumers not just in terms of entertainment but in social causes and helping those in need.

What are the rules of bingo and how can you get started?

Whether you play online or in person, a game of bingo will always start the same way: with you being allocated a set of numbers. In person this will be given on a card, while online it will be on your computer screen.

The numbers will be randomly generated, and the amount you get will depend on the specific game you’re playing. For example, in 90-ball bingo you will be given a card with 27 spaces, 15 of which will be filled with random numbers between one and 90 and the remaining 12 left blank.

A caller – either a real person or a computer program – will then randomly select numbers and call them out. If the number selected is one of yours, you mark it off.

The aim of the game is to be the first person to mark a certain selection of numbers, depending on what type of bingo you are playing. Most simply, 90-ball games are about marking off all the numbers in a single row on your card.

Once someone has completed a row and won the prize for doing so, players then compete to have two full rows marked off. Finally, once someone has achieved this, everyone competes to be the first to fill out their entire card.

Different games may have different patterns you need to mark off in order to win. For example, in some games of 75-ball bingo the aim is to mark numbers on your card that line up in a particular shape, such as a cross or a diamond.

Why is online bingo different?

One of the reasons bingo has become so popular in recent years is the growth of its online variant. Rather than heading out to a bingo hall in Canada, players can play from their phones or laptops in the comfort of their own homes.

The game is essentially the same, only faster. There is no need to wait between the drawing of numbers for everyone to check their card and ensure they’ve marked off the right number, as the computer does it for you.

Playing something like Delta Bingo is therefore a quicker and easier way to start playing bingo than heading out to a bingo hall. Online games are also easier to get into and quicker to finish, so they allow you to try out different rulesets and see which you prefer.

Bingo can be a great hobby for anyone, and it is an easy game to understand even if you’re playing for the first time. Whether you head to the bingo hall for an afternoon of gaming or simply play online, make sure to have fun and be responsible.
