5 Ways To Increase Your Happiness

August 16, 2023

“We are not victims of our genes, but masters of our fates, capable of crafting lives filled with peace, happiness, and love,” emphasizes renowned biologist Dr. Bruce Lipton. This sentiment underscores the concept that individuals possess the power to create their own state of well-being. Living happier lives requires a multifaceted strategy that addresses both internal and external factors. Let’s look at a few of the ways we can foster enduring well-being and joy.

The journey commences with dietary choices. Opting for a diverse array of organic foods, spanning the spectrum of colours, can recalibrate both the body and ‘happy hormones.’ This harmonization cultivates a sense of vitality, optimism, and a vibrant perspective on the world. Choosing an array of colourful foods not only supplies the body with phytonutrients but also essential minerals and vitamins that elevate one’s vibrational frequency. The consumption of an organic rainbow of whole foods nourishes emotions such as joy, love, hope, and peace, ultimately resonating with higher vibrational frequencies. By adopting a ‘food farmacy’ approach to eating, individuals can bolster their sense of well-being and, consequently, their happiness. Conversely, a diet rich in nutrient-deficient, ultra-processed foods can numb the functionality of the brain’s ‘feel-good’ hormones, impeding the potential for joy and happiness. This dietary misalignment can even awaken negative emotions such as depression, anger, and resentment, resulting in a lower vibrational state.

Physical movement further contributes to happiness by releasing ‘happiness hormones’. The hormones affected by both nutrition and exercise include dopamine, serotonin (neurotransmitters associated with satisfaction and well-being), oxytocin (linked to stress reduction and empathy), Gaba (reducing anxiety), insulin (affecting mood stability), and endorphins (enhancing well-being). Achieving a balance in these hormones begets an internal sense of happiness, accompanied by steady moods and elevated energy levels. In addressing stress and anxiety, deliberate breathing exercises serve as an invaluable tool to signal our parasympathetic nervous system to calm the body down. The Heart Flow breathing technique of inhaling for four seconds and exhaling for seven seconds is one of my favourites for quickly regulating the nervous system.

The profound impact of unconditional love. Starting with self-love as a foundation, we should allow this love to permeate through personal relationships, professional interactions, and even into broader community engagements. Participating in activities that resonate with one’s passions and intentions throughout the day can amplify this sense of love. It is crucial to understand that love is not confined to material expressions; rather, it manifests as energy in forms such as kindness, compassion, and acceptance. These elements collectively contribute to a higher vibrational state, inducing empathy, happiness, and joy. Love’s positive influence extends beyond emotional well-being by also bestowing various health benefits. It holds the power to alleviate pain, reduce stress and depression, fortify immunity, and even aid in the fight against cancer.

Practicing gratitude and kindness. Scientifically, gratitude’s impact on the body is profound, promoting the functionality of gray matter in the brain, lowering inflammation, influencing epigenetics, boosting the immune system, and helping the heart. By transmuting negativity into positivity, gratitude emerges as a powerful force in building resilience, enhancing self-esteem, and ultimately fostering better health and happiness.Similarly, kindness is not just an ethical virtue; it’s a boon for well-being. With its ability to lower blood pressure, reduce cortisol, and boost serotonin, dopamine, and endorphins, kindness possesses immunological and energy-boosting properties. Its reach extends to both longevity and happiness, benefiting not only individuals but also those around them.

As the adage goes, “Laughter is the best medicine.” Intriguingly, laughter’s chemical reactions release ‘happy hormones’ and stimulate positive feelings. Its impact on longevity is exemplified by studies indicating that individuals with a robust sense of humour tend to outlive their less jovial counterparts, even in the face of challenges like cancer. Laughter injects vitality and zest into life, fostering personal contentment and improved mood.

By collectively embracing love and happiness, we can elevate the vibrational frequency of the world. Counteracting the tide of negativity of those who are marked by painful emotions necessitates enveloping all with love and kindness, deflecting negative vibrations while showering light and positivity on everyone we meet. Simple habits, like smiling, can trigger the release of endorphins, promoting happiness and reducing anxiety and stress not only for us but also for those who reciprocate the smile. These steps, backed by scientific evidence, offer a potent means to elevate one’s vibrational frequency, foster happiness, and contribute to a healthier and more harmonious world. —Teresa Greco
