10 Top Sunscreens For Summer 2023

August 17, 2023

As the summer continues on we’re reminded daily of the importance of suncare. From days sitting out on the patio to beach lounging, we’ve had our close calls with sun damage the past few months. Here are some of our favourite new discoveries we’ll be using well into the fall since sun safety is a year-round practice. —Vicki Duong

clinque. Ideal for the skincare enthusiast on-the-go, Clinique’s best-selling Moisture Surge now comes in an SPF version ($62). Like the OG, the new broad spectrum SPF 28 version delivers a dose of hydration that keeps your skin supple without weighing it down while protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. We love that it blends in sheer with no white cast making it the perfect pre-makeup step.

supergoop. When it comes to sun protection, there are some spots that often get neglected such as lips. Did you know that your lips are naturally one of the most sun-sensitive spots on your body? Fret not, Supergoop has your peckers covered with their new lipsticks ($24) available in a range of tints. Two swipes is all it takes for a fully pigmented lippie while mineral SPF keeps your lips protected.

dermalogica. Suncare doesn’t have to be just something that shields your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays, it can also double as skincare. Enter Porescreen SPF 40 ($77), a mineral sunscreen from Dermalogica that not only protects but also enhances the look of your skin. A slight blurring effect creates a diffused finish while a touch of tint evens out your complexion.

truly lifestyle brand. Looking for a sunscreen that also doubles as a skin barrier repairing moisturiser? Check out Truly’s newest offering, an SPF 30 serum ($59) full of good-for-you ingredients such as elderberry and pongamia pinnata seed extract. These natural ingredients are known for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and reparative properties often found in anti-aging products making this the ideal choice for those looking to mend and repair their skin as well.

attitude. Not a fan of lotion sunscreens and sunblocks? Don’t worry, Attitude has the solution. Their plastic-free mineral sunscreens ($20) come in stick format making it easy to apply (and reapply) without the fuss of creams. Like all Attitude products, this formula is PETA certified, vegan and cruelty-free. Plus the coconut oil and shea butter blend glide on with ease.

grown alchemist. When it comes to clean, reef-safe formulas, Grown Alchemist is always a go-to. Their Natural Hydrating Sunscreen ($59) contains plenty of natural ingredients, such as rosehip oil and vitamin C, that also combat the signs of too much sun exposure. Rosehip oil targets the look of fine lines and wrinkles while vitamin C protects your skin for free radicals and targets dark spots.

vichy. With body sunscreens there is an entire checklist we’re trying to tackle when finding our perfect fit. Something that is protective but also ultra-light without residue transfer onto our clothes and is also preferably water and sweat-resistant. The Capital Soleil Sport ($32) from Vichy checks off all of these boxes and more. Bonus: it can be applied on wet or dry skin for added versatility!

belif. Is your skin more on the dry side vs the oily side? For parched skin we love the Belif Aqua Bomb SPF 50 ($50), a two-in-one moisturiser and sunscreen rich with antioxidant herbal ingredients. Similar to the entire Belif range , this formula is dermatologically tested and uses modern Korean skin science to provide efficiency as well as care.

elizabeth arden. If you’re looking for sunscreen that also doubles as anti-aging care, the Prevage City Smart ($98) from Elizabeth Arden is always a fave. Not only does it shield your skin from UV rays but it also targets other environmental aggressors such as pollution and smoke making it ideal for the urban dweller in need of SPF and TLC.

yves rocher. We’ve all been there and gotten a bit too much sun and had to reshift our focus to soothing and repairing our skin. The best way to treat your skin after prolonged sun exposure is to intensely hydrate your pores to start to repair the damage and recover suppleness. Enter the Yves Rocher’s After Sun ($25), a silky lotion made primarily of natural origin ingredients that leaves a light Monoi fragrance.
