Tiramisu is a classic dessert especially at Italian restaurants but it was actually only invented in the 1960s. It shows how well loved this dessert is that it has become such a staple. Here are our absolute favourite tiramisus in Vancouver. —Bronwyn Lewis
Pepino’s has a rich and decadent tiramisu. The Bombolona parfait comes in a tall glass, reminiscent of a milkshake, that allows you to see the many layers. It is so popular, it has been a fixture on the menu since opening. You can also sample a more elegantly sized version at Caffe La Tana next door.
Via Tevere Pizzeria on Victoria Drive has a delicious tiramisu that makes up for its short stature by being big in flavour. The ladyfingers in Via’s version are soaked in coffee and no alcohol at all, and are then layered with mascarpone cream.
Burdy has crafted a cheeky take on the tiramisu inspired by their close proximity to Container Brewing. For their beermisu they soak ladyfingers in Container’s Depravity Nitro Chocolate Porter rather than the traditional coffee.
Tutto in Yaletown also has a delicious espresso and marsala tiramisu. It is served in an almost impossibly tidy square slice which pairs excellently with a glass of Vin Santo Del Chianti Classico Occio di Pernice.
The tiramisu by Chef Behshad at C Prime is by far the most dramatic in the city. It is named the Tableside Tiramisu because it comes contained within a circle of clear plastic that is removed table side, beautifully spilling mascarpone cream over the entire dessert.
