Vicki’s Summer Beauty Faves

August 24, 2023

Much like a lot of you, I am hanging on to summer for as long as I can. From the #strawberrymakeup looks to healthy, dewy skin below are some of my favourite summer discoveries I’ll be bringing with me into fall to keep the spirit of warm weather alive. —Vicki Duong

bobbi brown. One of my favourite trends as of late is opting for light coverage complexion products that help even out skintone while letting natural features such as beauty marks and freckles show through. I’ve been loving the Vitamin Enriched Hydrating Skin Tint ($62) from Bobbi Brown because it checks off all my boxes. Lightweight coverage? Check! Good for you ingredients such as brightening vitamin C and nourishing hyaluronic acid? Check! An added layer of sun protection with SPF 15? Check! What’s not to love?

estée lauder. How do you make a good thing even better? Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Serum ($108) is a cult beauty classic known for its reparative and age-rewinding properties and now there’s a new kid on the block. The Advanced Night Repair Rescue Solution ($110) adds to your skincare routine as a pre-serum boasting their hero ingredient, bifidus ferment. A lifesaver for sensitive skin, bifidus ferment fights the appearance of redness while also repairing the skin’s barrier.

peace out. Banish clogged pores with this small but mighty treatment stick ($33) from Peace Out. A blend of kaolin clay, acids and mushroom extracts tag team to provide a gentle exfoliation that lifts dead skin cells and leaves your skin feeling oh-so-soft. I’ve been especially loving this as a quick mask treatment for nose blackheads and instantly noticed that my makeup has applied better after every use.

benefit cosmetics. Any beauty aficionado knows that when it comes to iconic mascaras, Benefit Cosmetics seems to reign supreme so when they launch a new formula I knew it had to be exceptional. The new Fan Fest mascara ($38) deserves all of the hype it’s attracted online. Not only is it extremely volumizing and separating, but the curved brush ensures that it reaches the corners of your lashes, root to tip.

urban decay. This was the summer of blush. Whether you’re mimicking the look of being sun kissed or just looking flushed, cream is the ultimate formula to ensure a dewy finish that looks seamless on bare skin or foundation. The new Hydromaniac Dewy Liquid Blush ($30) from Urban Decay is a clear choice for a soft or impactful finish. This buildable product can be applied with just your fingertips, plus a tube applicator ensures no product is wasted.

charlotte tilbury. When it comes to radiant skin, MUA Charlotte Tilbury seems to be the authority among celebs. Her latest skincare addition is the Magic Hydrator Mist ($58), a lightweight but impactful mist that gives you a boost of hydration and a dose of pollution defence to leave your pores feeling smoother and younger with every use.

UOMA beauty. Forget everything you know about finishing powders because UOMA Beauty’s latest Hydroblast Finishing Powder ($50) is 52% water. You read that right, a mattifying finishing powder that never leaves a cakey result because it’s infused with skincare ingredients that provides a cooling sensation and soft-focus blur effect. It applies like a powder that disappears on skin contact, a truly unique and innovative product.

JVN hair. You know what doesn’t love prolonged sun exposure and salt water as much as I do? My hair. Luckily the new Nurture Intense Hydration Hair Mask ($46) adds much needed moisture and strength back into my tresses immediately. Like everything else from the JVN Hair line-up it’s certified clean at Sephora so you can feel good while looking great with your smooth locks.

notion skincare. This summer I was blessed to be able to travel but swapping out my skincare for travel-friendly products wreaked havoc on my skin. Thankfully Notion Skincare offers a gentle foaming cleanser ($42) that comes in powder form, just mix with water and lather. Ingredients such as rice powder and oatmeal provide light exfoliation while its liquid-free formula makes it ideal for jet setting.

peter thomas roth. When it comes to wearing my lips bare, I am still looking for hydration, plumping and smoothing. The newest offering from Peter Thomas Roth, Instant FIRMx Lip Filler ($40) knocks it out of the park. This lippie treatment provides suppleness while filling in fine lines and has a volumizing effect, even on the thinnest lips. Worn on its own or layered under lipsticks and glosses.
