With hot, sunshine-filled days and warm patio nights just around the corner, we’ve done the legwork for you and found the perfect summer wine—and it’s produced by a very special winery located in picturesque northern Italy.
Founded in 1823 and comprising 55 lush hectares, and currently in the hands of the family’s sixth generation, the Alois Lageder family winery produces lively and fresh wines from Italy’s Alto Adige region. With a holistic approach, creativity and an experimental spirit, Alois Lageder creates wines that reflect the diversity of the surrounding area, which borders Switzerland and Austria. The winery itself is committed to biodynamic wine production, which sees a farm—or in this case, winery—as an enclosed microcosm containing a variety of plants and animals. A cultural landscape, too, is a closed system involving the soil, plants and nature. At Alois Lageder, the objective as wine growers is to maintain and develop this complex ecosystem, to create awareness for an agriculture that is in tune with nature, and to continually expand their knowledge in this sector.
Now for the wine (we know you’ve been waiting)! Our top summer pick for a slightly aromatic, fruity (melon and peach), spicy and mineral Pinot Grigio that’s rich, opulent, lively, fresh, fruity and dry on the palate is Alois Lageder Pinot Grigio PORER 2021. Farmed, of course, according to biodynamic methods of viticulture, and Demeter certified, this bottle bodes well with al fresco eats like seafood, white meat and poultry—or serve it with starters before the big meal. Its inherent versatility makes it a cellar essential for hosting all those summer soirees; available at BC Liquor Stores, we’re calling Alois Lageder Pinot Grigio PORER 2021 the sip of the season! —Vita Daily
