Ask Coach Erin: Evening Snacking, Nighttime Routines, & Affirmations

Erin here, ready to answer this week’s Ask Coach Erin q’s.

You’ve been asking some amazing questions (and if you haven’t submitted yours, make sure you do so here!)

This week, we’re covering evening snacking, nighttime routines, and my fave affirmations for self-love—because we could all use a little more self-lovin’.

Let’s get into the q’s!!

Why do I always snack in the evenings, even though I know I’m not really hungry?

If you find yourself ravenously going through your fridge and cupboards in the evenings, you’re not alone and I’ve definitely been there. 

This can be due to a few reasons. You may not be eating enough throughout the day, leaving large gaps between meals and snacks which cause you to overeat in the evening. It’s also possible you’ve been eating enough but making choices that fill you up but aren’t satisfying.  If this is the case, try acknowledging your cravings in the day and add a crunchy treat or something sweet so that you truly feel satisfied.

It may also be due to emotional factors, in which case I recommend that you ask yourself:

What am I hungry for that can’t be solved in the kitchen? Perhaps you are hungry for connection, excitement, creativity, or rest. By addressing your true, root need, you may be able to fill the void you feel in a more balanced, holistic way. 

What is your nighttime routine?

My evening routine is key for helping me to get a proper night’s rest so that I wake up the next day ready to roll. 

I like to keep it simple; first, I power down all of my electronics 30 minutes before bedtime. 

Next, I get cozy on the floor and put my legs up the wall. This helps to reduce inflammation, calm the nervous system, and help me to feel more grounded and in my body. As I’m laying on my back, I take a few moments to breathe, feel my body, and let go of my day. 

I also love my Spoonk acupressure mat and a weighted blanket.

Then, I begin my skincare regime while I drink a cup of Radiant Skin tea from Pique Life. I use Osea face wash, hyaluronic sea serum, moisturizer and Strategy Skin retinol. 

Before crawling into bed, I put on my Blissy face mask, and lights out!

What are your fave affirmations for self love?

The way we speak to ourselves matters; our thoughts become our reality. And if our thoughts are that powerful, then why not fill our minds and bodies with positive, encouraging phrases that help to instil a sense of peace, purpose, and self-love?
