Club Med, the global leader in premium all-inclusive vacations, has partnered with Canadian Olympic freestyle skier Justine Dufour-Lapointe. Best known for her triumphant gold medal at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics women’s moguls event, Justine became the youngest freestyle skiing Olympic champion at the time. When she isn’t attempting higher feats or preparing for the next Winter Olympics, Justine can be found reveling in her love of travel, exploring the world with family and friends. Her global adventures have taken her to numerous Club Med properties, including Club Med Québec Charlevoix, where she continues to enjoy the unique experience and activities, making her the perfect brand ambassador. We chatted with Justine to find out more. —Vita Daily
Hi Justine! Please tell us a bit about yourself to start.
“Hi, I’m Justine! So, number one, I’m actually a freestyle mogul skier. I’ve been to three Olympic games and I won two medals at the Olympic games, and now I am a free ride pro skier and I’m on the free ride world tour. I’m currently travelling a lot, skiing a lot. And that’s why I think, for me, travelling has always been part of my life. I’ve been doing that since I’m 16 years old. And that’s always been something that I really enjoy – exploring the world, exploring summer places, beach places, and also mountains. And that’s really what I’m most passionate about.”
Congrats on being named an ambassador for Club Med! How did this partnership come about, and what makes it a good fit for you?
“I’m super happy to be an ambassador of Club Med. For me, that was a really obvious, clear match for me. I’ve actually been going to Club Med since I’m 18 years old. Every vacation that I had, I was always booking there because it was such an easy travel option when I was just tired of my season skiing and training. So sometimes, you just want a vacation where you just don’t have to think about anything. And that’s what I love the most about Club Med is that they always have the best beaches, the best food (because it’s French), and they also have the best parties and animations and are always a lot of fun. You never get bored because there’s a ton of activities. And I’m a big athlete. I love to move. So, you’re always having some yoga in the morning, followed by activities during the day, going sailing, volleyball games, etc. That’s really my type of vacation where you can actually have a nap, but also get yourself moving. And for me, I’ve been to Club Med I think 14 times now. I’ve done quite many of them. I’m going to Club Med twice a year at least. But it’s really my favourite and that’s why I’m just so proud to be an ambassador because it’s genuinely what I’ve been doing, what I’ve been experiencing with Club Med before being an ambassador.”
Which Club Med properties have you visited, and what do you love about them?
“Well, I think for me, I’ve experienced a lot of different types of Club Med resorts. I’ve been to a lot of mountain Club Med resorts, so the one at Tignes, Les Arc, Val Thorens. And for me, what I love the most about the mountain Club Med experience is that you really have best of both worlds. You have access to skiing, the best mountains in the world, but also a good time, and relaxation. You can use the sauna, you can use the hottub, have good food, have a nice 5-7, have a drink afterwards with the sunset. So, for me, it’s the package deal that is just so, so worth it. But also, what I love about Club Med’s beach resorts is again, the activities. I am a huge fan of, okay, you need to rest. But also, I love to move. I love to not think too much and they have everything planned for you and activities, so you never feel bored at Club Med, that’s for sure.”
We’re dying to visit Club Med Québec Charlevoix; what do you love about this Canadian resort?
“For me, at the Club Med resort in Québec Charlevoix, what I love the most is for sure the view of the Saint Lawrence River which is completely breathtaking. Many rooms at Club Med Québec Charlevoix have a view of the river, and it’s something really unique that we have back here in Canada, in Québec, is that amazing view that you don’t get to see that much in Europe, when you go skiing because you see the mountain, but you never actually see the water. And that’s something so unique is to see water while skiing, or while doing mountain biking. And that’s really what’s so unique about Club Med Québec Charlevoix.”
You have a passion for travel! Where does that come from, what fuels it and why do you wish to share it with others?
“Again, for me, travelling has been my lifestyle. I think I’ve been more in my suitcase than at home in the past 12 years. I’ve always been travelling to get close to snow every chance I get. So, it’s now my lifestyle, it’s how I live. And again, Club Med has a ton of resorts around the world, and that’s something that I’m super, super excited to experience. Yes, I’ve been travelling a lot in the Caribbean with Club Med and also in Europe for skiing. But now I want to explore even more: all the other Club Med destinations around the world. And that’s something so unique about them is they have such a variety of choices. You have resorts in Asia, the Maldives, Rio — you can really travel the world with Club Med.”
Any ski/winter sport tips for novices visiting Club Med Québec Charlevoix this winter?
“I think honestly, what I love again the most about Club Med Québec Charlevoix is the expertise of the ski coaches — you can really have amazing ski class at Club Med Québec Charlevoix That’s really something that is so great about Club Med, which is all inclusive. We think that okay, it’s all inclusive, but it’s truly all inclusive. You have ski tickets and ski classes with a pro teacher included in the cost, so that’s something so worth your stay. And you have amazing food and all-inclusive drinks, and it’s just such an amazing package deal where you just don’t have to think about anything. And I think when you’re thinking, oh, I’m going into a ski winter vacation, you think it’s sometimes a little bit overwhelming because you have so much to plan. But when you go with Club Med, you can really truly trust Club Med for having everything dialed in and for the class, for the ski ticket, for the car to get you from the airport to Club Med. So, everything is already thought of and you just have to get there and enjoy your stay and have a truly good vacation. And I think for me, Club Med Québec Charlevoix this winter is an amazing place to ski. It’s actually one of my favourite places. The view again is breathtaking and it’s so unique while skiing. I ski everywhere in the world and that’s really something that I’ve never seen before, is this place is really special. So, I think my tips would be to go book yourself a class with a coach at Club Med Québec Charlevoix because you’re going to have a ton of fun. They’re going to bring you to a special place, to a special slope where not that many people go. And I think that’s really the key to having an amazing trip, is to really trust Club Med to bring you at the right place and enjoy your stay.”
