Three-Word Style

November 24, 2023

Thanks to TikTok, stylist Allison Bornstein’s three-word personal style method (along with the wrong shoe theory) has made its way to the masses. Allison’s MO is to help people hone in on their style by attaching a trio of descriptive words to establish their personal aesthetic vocabulary and vibe. The three-word method creates guideposts to navigate everything from getting dressed to wardrobe building and shopping—all the while making sure you feel like you and bringing you confidence in both what you wear and what you buy.

Thousands have been attracted to this approach, finding clarity in claiming what three adjectives work best for their self-expression and OOTDs. For example, are you a Gwyneth: refined, minimalist and relaxed? Or a Jillian Lansky of The August Diaries, who landed on elevated, undone and vintage after hiring Allison to help establish her own three-word method. The possibilities are endless when coming up with what combination of words work best to describe your own style vocabulary. And though fashion is very subjective by nature (and often hard to articulate through words) the descriptive word method helps to guide the wearer to achieve a look that feels right to them.

Below, we’ve put together three style personas with some of the best pieces of the season. —Lauren Walker-Lee
