During the holidays, Gastown truly comes alive with the magical spirit of the season. On Thursdays from now until December 21, its historic cobblestone streets stage a spectacular extravaganza, pairing its signature shopping and captivating window displays, with live music, fantastic food and drinks.
A standout for us is the romantic gesture of the returning and much-loved “Kiss Me In Gastown” installation. This love-fuelled feature adorns hand-crafted mistletoe by local florist, Floba, along multiple locations throughout the neighbourhood until January 6.
Visitors can explore the mistletoe installation photo opps at the Gateway of Gastown, the corner of Water/Cordova outside of Monaco Coffee, Maple Tree Square and the lamp in Le Magasin Alley, along with surprises at Arcade and other special spots waiting to be discovered.
Other standouts with Gastown Thursday nights include weekly performances from 4:00 PM until 7:00PM. The Los Dorados Mariachi Band brings authentic flair to the neighbourhood on December 7, followed by the East Van Horns on December 14, and our favourite, the Nerdy Elves on December 21.
And additionally, holiday shoppers can indulge in various happy hour deals throughout the month and make the most of late-night shopping at various retailers. Enjoy after-dark shopping for those last-minute gift from some of our favourite retailers including Artemisia, Chicwinds, COS, Little Mountain, Makers Gastown, Oak and Fort and The Latest Scoop. Then end the night with an espresso and treat, with extended hours from cafes including Sonder Cafe & Espresso and Waffle Land. —Julia Dumbrell
