OK. So, you don’t want to cook, but you don’t want to do take-out at home either. We get that. What you really want is to put on a sequin sweater or LBD, settle in at a nice restaurant and tuck into a traditional turkey dinner. Here, five restaurants that’ll take great care of you this Christmas Day. —Catherine Dunwoody
The décor alone is stunning at Bacchus at Wedgewood Hotel, and of course this Michelin guide recommended restaurant promises a fabulous meal. The four-course Christmas Day dinner also offers non-turkey options of Palffy dumplings, or black striped sea bass and for dessert the gingerbread mousse snowflake with egg nog ice cream sounds divine.
Forage Restaurant on Robson Street has a three-course feast that starts with a baby kale and arugula salad, then JD Farms specialty turkey or smoked boneless Fraser Valley pork rack. Sticky toffee pudding for dessert, and you can add some B.C. oysters or bison carpaccio as starters.
We love a classic Christmas Day buffet at a swishy hotel, don’t you? Like a holiday movie in the making. Fairmont Hotel Vancouver has a Christmas Day Buffet Dinner set in the opulent Pacific Ballroom, and guests are greeted with a complimentary welcome drink, then invited to make their way around the chef-attended stations, with live music to create that warm and fuzzy holiday vibe.
Clough Club’s new pop-up bar, Miracle in Gastown, has a retro-kitsch menu that features a Holiday Dinner Dog: Turkey sausage, stuffing, cranberry, mashed potato, and gravy. The cocktail list is fantastic too.
Honey Salt at the Parq hotel has a dinner buffet that is sure to wow with classic traditional dishes, plus West Coast cuisine, chef’s carving stations, fresh-baked breads, and desserts. The special drink list should be visited too.
