The Rise Of The Pilates Princess Trend

June 21, 2024

The Pilates Princess trend is taking over social media and fitness routines everywhere. From cute outfits to endless physical benefits, we got the scoop about the viral trend with Core Community founder and master Pilates trainer, Mira Lutsky-Buchan.

When asked about the burgeoning popularity of Pilates, Mira attributes it to both its timeless nature and the pervasive influence of social media. “Pilates has been around for 100 years and is tried-and-true,” she states. “Now more than ever, our bodies need Pilates. Our deteriorating posture from desk jobs and being glued to our phones has led to health issues and chronic pain that Pilates can really help alleviate. Simply, you just leave Pilates feeling better.”

The allure of the Pilates, amplified by the viral “Pilates princess” trend, showcases not just the physical benefits but also the elegance and grace associated with this form of exercise. If you’re new to the workout or are keen to try out the aesthetic, matching knit sets, baby pink rompers, slouchy socks, and hair bows are all the rage. This sweet style is partially inspired by ballerinas, as they are well-known to practice Pilates to enhance their dancing and mobility.

The aesthetics of Core’s studios reflect Mira’s personal vision, but coincidentally match the viral look. “I wanted to create a place where I wanted to take Pilates. The interior of a studio sets the tone, and I wanted Core to be calming and beautiful, creating an experience from the moment you walk through the door and throughout the session,” she explains. Special attention was given to indirect lighting, a personal pet peeve of Mira’s, to ensure a serene environment for practice. The studios have gotten loads of attention on Instagram, due to their clean lines, light colour palettes and contemporary design.

Putting social media trends aside, Pilates is here to stay. Mira envisions a future where Pilates is approachable for everyone. “My goal has always been to make Pilates more accessible. The number of new faces coming through the doors since opening our Main St. location has been incredible to see,” she notes. In the short term, she aims to expand their teacher training program and establish a clinical Pilates program led by physiotherapists.

As the “Pilates princess” trend continues to captivate social media and inspire numerous fashion trends, the science and undeniable benefits behind the workout are here to stay. —Maddie Clerides
