Here’s How To Enhance Your Homemade Lasagna

SMEG’s Perfect Lasagna

For the Pasta Dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt

For the Marinara Sauce:

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 cans (28 oz each) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp sugar

For the Béchamel Sauce:

  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Assembly:

  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

1. Prepare the Pasta Dough:

  1. In the SMEG 50’s Style Stand Mixer, combine the flour, eggs, olive oil and salt.
  2. Attach the SMEG Dough Hook Accessory and mix on low speed until the dough comes together.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it rest for 30 minutes.

2. Prepare the Marinara Sauce:

  1. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sauté until translucent.
  3. Add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and sugar (if using).
  4. Simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Use the SMEG Hand Blender to blend sauce until smooth.

3. Prepare the Béchamel Sauce:

  1. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.
  3. Gradually add the milk, while whisking constantly
  4. Add nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
  5. Cook until the sauce thickens, stirring frequently.

4. Roll Out the Pasta Dough:

  1. Divide the rested dough into four pieces.
  2. Using a pasta machine or rolling pin, roll each piece into thin sheets.
  3. Cut the sheets into lasagna-sized noodles.

5. Assemble the Lasagna:

  1. Preheat the SMEG Countertop Combi Steam Oven to 375°F.
  2. In a bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg and Parmesan cheese.
  3. In a lasagna dish, spread a layer of marinara sauce.
  4. Add a layer of pasta sheets, followed by ricotta mixture, béchamel sauce and mozzarella cheese.
  5. Repeat the layers, finishing with a layer of marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese on top.

6. Bake the Lasagna:

  1. Place the assembled lasagna in the SMEG Countertop Combi Steam Oven.
  2. Bake for 30-35 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
  3. Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before serving.
  4. Garnish with fresh basil leaves.
