MALVADOS, known for its sleek and stylish flip-flops, sandals and slides, is stepping into a new realm of fashion with the launch of its exclusive bag collection, available for Spring/Summer 2025. It includes a versatile messenger, the perfect beach/market tote and a chic bracelet clutch, all designed to match back to prints and colours featured in their footwear collection. The new collection draws inspiration from Palm Springs, with earthy desert tones and architectural symmetry of Mid-Century Modern Design. The styles are named after iconic people and places renown to the area. We chatted with founder Jen Rainnie about the launch, and we’re giving you a chance to win! —Vita Daily

What inspired you to expand Malvados from footwear into accessories, and how does this new bag collection complement your existing product line?

Our retailers have been asking us for years to add bags to our collection. We sell to a lot of resorts and I think it just makes sense to have a cute matching beach bag, tote or clutch when on vacation.

The new collection draws inspiration from Palm Springs and Mid-Century Modern Design. Can you elaborate on how these influences are reflected in the designs and materials of the bags?

I spent a lot of time this past winter in Palm Springs because my daughter was going to school there. Wearing my flip flops constantly to everything from Festivals to dinners on the patio (because of the heat) really made me realize what was important to own in your flip flop collection: you need metallics, you need a lightweight platform, and you need prints and fabrications. All of these “needs” went in to what we are offering for next year to provide our customer with something for every look she might be wearing.

Could you share more about the design process for the Monroe Messenger, Parker Clutch, and Taylor Tote, and what unique features set them apart from other accessories in the market?

These were all designed because I’ve felt like these are the 3 staples bags you need to own. The Messenger was inspired by needing a cute looking bag that you can use for everything even your laptop without having to go to a backpack! It’s big enough that you can take it to school, or wear it while travelling, even day to day as a big purse. The pockets are the size that were carefully measured to fit your phone and water bottle (essentials). And all three colors are grounded in a beautiful saddle brown. They all go with virtually everything. The Taylor Tote is the beach tote I’ve been looking for my whole life! I’ve worked for some of the best swim and apparel brands on the market and nobody could get this one right! It’s handwoven and have a gorgeous Tulum look to it, but the best thing about it is the size. It doesn’t look bulky but if needed you can pack a ton of groceries or beach essentials into it. And the strap is just the right length, not to long, not too short. The Parker Clutch is my favorite – I’ve been looking for this clutch forever as well. A perfect small size – all you need for a night out for your phone, lipgloss and ID. And the detachable ring is so amazing! You can clip it to your belt loop if clubbing or at a festival, clip it to your tote if at the beach or travelling or just take it off all together if you are wearing it with a formal dress. Also the bracelet is the perfect hands free option when you need to grab a drink.

How do you envision the new accessory line enhancing the overall Malvados lifestyle brand experience for your customers?

It’s just so nice to have things that match! That’s it, your outfit looks so much better when you have a bag that ties it all together. We’ve always wanted to be the footwear that you take with you everywhere because we are so versatile, now we are giving you the same in a bag that matches.

With the collection launching online and in stores in November, what strategies are you employing to engage and excite both new and existing customers about these new offerings?

We are going to be working on some new collaborations this season with some of our favorite influencers to get the word out there … stay tuned!
