Chatting Fall Hair Trends With Teresa Bator

August 15, 2024

Summer is still in full swing, but there’s no doubt we’re quickly heading into pumpkin spice and cardigan season, when on-trend hair colors are showcased everywhere we look. We asked Canadian Olaplex advocate Teresa Bator about the most important trends she’s seeing. —Vita Daily

As we move into fall, we’re seeing a shift towards warmer tones like “Sunshine Blonde” and “Butterscotch Blonde.” What do you think is driving this trend, and how do these shades complement the season?

As our tans fade, warmer tones look softer against our skin. These warmer tones compliment the fall look of sweaters and boots. Think leaves changing colour to warm reds and golds.

You mentioned that brunettes will be embracing richer, warmer shades with a touch of golden red, like the “Cinnamon Spice” hue. How do you recommend maintaining the vibrancy of these tones throughout the season?

To maintain vibrancy, especially with red, you want healthy hair. I recommend always having your hair coloured by a professional along with regular use of colour safe shampoo and conditioner like OLAPLEX N°4 and N°5. These products nourish and support repair and help keep colour from fading. I recommend asking your stylist for a “colour bomb” where they mix a personalized colour depositing treatment with the OLAPLEX N°3 Hair Perfector, a patented formula that repairs and strengthens your hair while depositing your pre-existing colour to maintain that vibrant red.

Balayage continues to be a popular technique. How are you adapting this method to incorporate the warmer tones trending this fall, and what advice would you give to clients considering this look?

Because balayage is mostly surface painting, it usually results in a warmer tone.To clients considering this look, I would advise using a demi instead of permanent colour, as it will be more successful lifting. If you are considering Balayage, avoid a haircut with excessive layers.

OLAPLEX products play a key role in maintaining the health of colored hair. Could you explain how the OLAPLEX N° 1 Bond Multiplier and N° 2 Bond Perfector in salon treatment contributes to achieving these fall shades while protecting the hair?

The OLAPLEX N°1 Bond Multiplier is added to bleach and colour during your hair service to minimize damage. The N°2 Bond Perfector is used directly after to rebuild the bonds. It is the second step of the Olaplex system applied at the shampoo bowl. This combination is a patented formula that repairs your hair from the inside out. A system that is designed to repair broken disulfide bonds. You can have a chemical service done, but maintain healthy hair, even better than before.

For those looking to embrace these fall hair trends at home, what are your top Olaplex product recommendations to ensure the hair remains healthy, vibrant, and full of shine?

I highly recommend the OLAPLEX N°0 Intensive Bond Building Treatment, and the OLAPLEX N°3 Hair Perfector for an at home bond building hair maintenance. They are used one after another, it’s quick and it’s like a professional salon treatment you can do at home. I call it Sunday spa day! I also recommend moisture! Hydrating your hair with the OLAPLEX N°8 Moisture Mask adds smooth body and shine! For styling, my most popular products tend to be an OLAPLEX N°6 Bond Smoother and N°7 Bonding Oil combination. Just one or two pumps of the N°6 Bond Smoother and a few taps of the N°7Bonding Oil mixed together and applied through the hair adds moisture, shine and reduces frizz for up to 72 hours. This combination works as a great heat protectant too!
