If you’re like us, we really don’t want summer to end—and we certainly don’t want to pack up our linen just yet. Linen is often associated with warm weather because it’s lightweight and breathable, but it can also be a great choice for fall outfits. To wear linen in the fall, consider layering and combining it with other fabrics that provide warmth and texture. Here are some tips on how to incorporate linen into your fall wardrobe. —Jen Pistor
1. Layer with Knits:
- Pair a linen blouse or shirt with a chunky knit cardigan or sweater. The contrast between the lightness of the linen and the heaviness of the knit creates a balanced look perfect for cooler weather.
- A linen dress can be worn over a fitted turtleneck or under a cozy coat for added warmth.
2. Mix with Heavier Fabrics:
- Combine linen pants or skirts with heavier fabrics like denim, leather, or wool. This not only adds warmth but also gives a stylish, textured look.
- A linen blazer or jacket can be layered over sweaters or other long-sleeved pullovers. A linen topper can be that perfect transition piece for when the weather first starts to cool.
3. Add Fall Accessories:
- Use scarves, hats, and gloves to complement your linen pieces and keep you cozy. A beautiful silk scarf wrapped around your neck or a big cozy wrap scarf can add interest and warmth. Plus, these items are easy to take off if that warm Fall sun makes an appearance.
- Consider wearing ankle boots, knee-high boots, or loafers to ground the airy feel of linen with a more autumnal vibe. Socks and tights are also a fantastic way to add stylish warmth.
4. Choose Fall Colours:
- Opt for linen pieces in autumnal colours like deep greens, burnt oranges, browns, and burgundies. These colours can make the outfit feel more season-appropriate.
- Earthy tones or jewel tones in linen can also transition well into fall. You are going to want to skip on the bright hues and simple whites. Those bright linens scream Summer.
5. Layer Your Linens Together:
- A linen blazer layered over a linen dress. A linen top with some linen pants. A linen scarf layered over a linen skirt and vest. An easy way to layer at the first signs of cooler weather is linen over linen. It’s light and breathable but the layers cover your skin and protect you from the first Fall winds.
- Linen accessories like bags, hats, scarves, etc. can be worn well into the Fall. They add texture and will give any outfit a more luxe feel.
