With a global user base of over 500 million, we analyze our internal search data to identify emerging trends and gain early insights. For our most recent Fall 2024 Trend Report, we examined data from June 2023 to June 2024, focusing on search terms that have been gaining popularity over the past year.
With Gen Z making up 40% of Pinterest’s user base, how do their preferences and behaviours influence the Fall 2024 Trend Report?

As we transition away from the busy summer months, it’s no surprise that there’s a growing desire to create a calm home environment, leading many to explore other cultures for inspiration. Known for their emphasis on tranquillity, functionality and vintage charm, Japanese design principles are becoming increasingly popular, as reflected in the rise of searches for Japanese vintage art (+270%) and Japanese futon bedrooms (+245%).
Pinterest is seeing a lot of interest in earthy ingredients like morel mushrooms and pistachio butter. How do food trends on Pinterest reflect broader shifts in the way people are cooking and eating?
Each season we see a rise in searches on Pinterest for unique ingredients and recipes showcasing a shift in habits towards gourmet cooking and health-conscious eating. The popularity of earthy items like “morel mushroom” (+240%) showcases a taste for distinctive flavours, while the rising interest in “plum jelly” and “milk jelly” reveals a craving for subtle, sweet treats. Japanese cuisine is also trending, with increased searches for “deconstructed sushi bowls” (+370%) and “chicken karaage” (+80%), highlighting a growing appetite for diverse and innovative cooking experiences.
