5 Questions With Bridal Designer Savannah Miller

September 13, 2024

When it comes to shopping for your wedding dress, London-based designer Savannah Miller has the best advice. “Follow your heart rather than trends,” Miller says. “Opt for classic styles that reflect who you are and make you feel amazing when you try them on.”

Miller started her fashion career working for design houses including Alexander McQueen and Matthew Williamson before launching her own label Twenty8Twelve with sister Sienna in the mid 2000s which they pair headed up until 2012. Along the course of her designer life, Miller fell in love with bridal wear, and in 2016 started her eponymous line Savannah Miller Bridal. Miller’s designs became cult favourites with brides looking for wedding styles that were elegant, cool, alluring, and effortless. Signature Savannah Miller Bridal silhouettes include sleek column dresses and ball gowns with fluttery fluidity and volume.

In 2022, Miller designed her first bespoke gown for British model, entrepreneur, and sustainability activist Danielle Copperman. The wedding was profiled in Vogue and the dreamy dress was so buzzed about that Miller added the Danielle dress to her chic bridal lineup.

Miller has just released her Spring/Summer 2025 collection called Resonance, and it’s one she describes as being the essence of classic modernity. She found inspiration for the dresses in the realm of sculpture—the dramatic draping and fabric manipulation seen on each of the collection’s 10 dresses was inspired by Welsh sculpture John Gibson’s iconic “Pandora” sculpture created in 1856.

We recently caught up with Miller to chat about her latest collection and why it’s the moment. She also has some further thoughts on shopping for your dress (go alone!).

Resonance is very much a collection founded on vintage-meets-modern stylings—why is this vibe something so many brides want now?

“This style of design resonates with brides because they can look and feel amazing on their wedding day without worrying their photographs are going to date,” Miller shares. “We strive to make every bride feel effortlessly elegant and that understated classic approach to design means that their personality can really shine through.”

What style signatures of Savannah Miller Bridal are in the new new collection and what fresh details have you played with?

“We are including a lot more volume and traditional silhouettes in our collections as we evolve,” Miller explains. “They still retain the essence of the Savannah Miller bride but with a little more acknowledgment of traditional shapes with a modern twist. I always love to include beautiful draping and fluid silky fabrics so those design features will always continue as they are who we are as a brand.”

Your gowns feel very red carpet instead of obviously bridal. Is this something you find today’s bride is looking towards and investing in fashion they can wear again?

“I think people are more influenced by red carpet dressing nowadays and certainly aspire to look as fabulous as our red-carpet attendees,” Miller says. “Our gowns evolve so they have detachable sleeves, capes etc. to make them feel more glamorous and evening as the day goes on and this means that they are also more versatile for wear after the event too.”

We know it’s hard to pick just one, but do you have a favourite dress from Resonance?

“Right now, my favourite gown is the Zara because I designed it for my dear friend, Zara Beard, who is an angel,” Miller smiles. “The gown really captures everything we stand for as a brand and looks stunning on everybody who tries it on. I want all women to feel empowered and incredible on their wedding days and Zara delivers, every single time.”

Any other insider wedding dress shopping advice to share?

“Always go looking for a dress on your own or with one trusted friend because if you take too many people early on, their differing opinions can make it very overwhelming,” Miller says. “Also, trust your stylist because they really know what they are doing. They may suggest something you would never have considered, and you will inevitably be pleasantly surprised. Invite your friends and family to you second appointment when you have narrowed down your search.” — Alison McGill
