Aritzia’s Orange Shirt Reps Fashion With A Purpose For Truth & Reconciliation

In recognition of Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Aritzia has introduced a special limited-edition Orange Shirt. This meaningful initiative honors the survivors of residential schools, the children who never returned, and the families and communities affected by this dark chapter in Canadian history. By supporting this campaign, Aritzia encourages all Canadians to stand in solidarity with Indigenous peoples and acknowledge that Every Child Matters.

Aritzia’s operations are deeply rooted on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Coast Salish Nations, including the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. The brand proudly acknowledges this heritage as part of its ongoing commitment to reconciliation.

This year, Aritzia partnered with Saimaiyu Akesuk, an Inuit artist from Iqaluit, to design the Orange Shirt. Saimaiyu is known for her vibrant, abstract representations of Arctic animals and landscapes, which serve as a celebration of her cultural roots. Her design for the Orange Shirt features a bird with outstretched wings, symbolizing hope, resilience, and a connection to the ancestors and lost children.

All proceeds from the sale of this limited-edition shirt will be donated to the Orange Shirt Society and other Indigenous community partners, ensuring that this initiative has a lasting impact. Through this partnership, Aritzia is not only contributing to the awareness of truth and reconciliation but also uplifting Indigenous culture and artistry.

Beyond Orange Shirt Day, Aritzia is committed to supporting Indigenous peoples through partnerships with organizations like the Urban Native Youth Association, Pow Wow Pitch, and providing internships for newly graduated Indigenous students.
