Inspired by our friend and contributor Jen Pistor, these spooky monster cookies are the perfect Halloween treat to make with kids! They’re easy, fun to decorate, and look adorable—just like the ones in the image. Here’s how you can recreate these delightful cookies at home.
Ingredients:
- 1 batch of sugar cookie dough (store-bought or homemade)
- White frosting (store-bought or homemade)
- Assorted candy eyes (variety of sizes)
- Halloween sprinkles (black, orange, purple, etc.)
- Food coloring pens (optional for drawing faces)
- Nocellara olives or colored candies (for monster eyes)
Instructions:
- Bake the Cookies: Roll out your sugar cookie dough and use a round cookie cutter (or just shape them by hand) to cut out circles. Bake according to your recipe or package instructions and let them cool completely.
- Frosting Fun: Once the cookies are cooled, spread a generous layer of white frosting on each cookie.
- Decorate: Now for the fun part! Let the kids go wild decorating the cookies:
- Add candy eyes (the more, the better!).
- Use sprinkles to create monster fur, scales, or patterns.
- Try food coloring pens to draw fun expressions.
- Get creative with different candy add-ons like gummy worms or colored candies to give your monsters even more personality!
- Let Set: Allow the frosting to set a little bit before serving so the decorations don’t slide off.
These cookies are sure to be a hit at your Halloween party, and making them is half the fun!
