The holidays are evolving—DoorDash Canada’s latest survey reveals surprising insights into how Canadians are shaking up seasonal traditions. From Gen Z’s love of new holiday rituals to the rise of sneaky store-bought treats, Heather Cameron, head of brand and creative, shares how the HoliDifferently campaign celebrates unconventional, stress-free ways to enjoy the season. —Noa Nichol

How does DoorDash Canada’s HoliDifferently campaign encourage Canadians to embrace unique and unconventional holiday traditions?

HoliDifferently aims to answer the question: Holi-Do or Holi-Don’t? Everyone across Canada celebrates the holiday season differently, and through our annual seasonal campaign, we’re highlighting that not every occasion has to follow textbook definitions. If you want to order tacos instead of cooking turkey, do it this year and you might never look back.

The survey reveals generational differences in how Canadians approach holiday traditions. Why do you think younger generations are more open to creating new traditions compared to older generations?

There’s only so much time during the holidays. Introducing a new tradition requires taking a chance on something new, something that might not become a long-standing occasion. With endless inspiration around every corner, Canadians might see something that sparks their interest, share with some friends, and get together for a low-stakes experience together.

The data highlights surprising habits like passing off store-bought desserts as homemade. What do you think this says about evolving attitudes toward holiday hosting and expectations?

It’s all about finding comfort in your company. Hosts and guests alike feel immense pressure to deliver perfect memories during the holiday season – and HoliDifferently aims to change that by providing more occasions to celebrate with less stress. If you can kick up your feet, smile a few more times, and feel less stress this year with some extra support from DoorDash, we can’t be happier.

With many Canadians expressing a preference for non-traditional celebrations, such as skipping gift-giving for shared experiences, how is DoorDash adapting to meet these changing preferences?

DoorDash is becoming a digital reflection of the best of your neighbourhood. With on-demand access to restaurants, grocers, retailers, and more, customers can enjoy more time spent with one another this holiday season without leaving home for errands. Imagine you’re baking sugar cookies, but you forgot sprinkles. Imagine you are heading to a holiday party, but you didn’t have time to grab a gift for the host. Dash that instead of stressing.

What are some key deals or promotions within the HoliDifferently campaign that can help Canadians make their celebrations more stress-free and enjoyable this holiday season?

The savings feel almost endless this season. Picture BOGOs from your favourite restaurants during 12 Days of Deals and deep discounts on grocery and baking essentials during Holiday Baking Frenzy to name a few. Come back to DoorDash each week to discover the possibilities this season.
