Vancouver’s OUMA Bridal is making waves with its latest REIMAGINED Eveningwear Capsule, a made-to-order collection that masterfully blends luxury with sustainability. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, these timeless pieces—including a striking 3D floral mini dress and a tulle high-low ball gown—are perfect for the eco-conscious fashionista. We sat down with Creative Director Ou Ma to discuss her inspiration, the intersection of ethics and elegance, and why this collection is a game-changer for modern eveningwear. —Noa Nichol
What inspired the creation of the REIMAGINED Eveningwear Capsule, and how does it differ from your previous collections?
Over the years of making bridal dresses, we often had brides asking for a colored gown, or a past bride wanting to wear a new collection piece in a different color. We heard their voices – we are reimagining some of our past signature designs in color, and designed some brand new pieces inspired by our past brides.
Sustainability is a key pillar of OUMA Bridal. How does this new collection embody your commitment to ethical fashion and environmental consciousness?
By offering the collection as made-to-order, we eliminate excess production and waste, ensuring each piece is crafted with intention and purpose. We prioritize high-quality, responsibly sourced materials that are designed to last, creating garments that transcend trends and reduce the need for frequent replacements.
Additionally, every piece is made in our Vancouver atelier with intention. Every detail of this capsule reflects our dedication to ethical fashion, from the thoughtful design process to the lasting impact on the environment, aligning beautifully with the values of today’s conscious consumers.
The capsule includes standout designs like the 3D floral appliqué mini dress and the high-low ball gown. Can you tell us about the creative process behind these pieces?
We love textures, which are key design elements throughout our bridal collections. We always save fabric scraps from cutting to make small decorative accessories like 3D flowers or bows. We specifically made two red dresses with those details for the holiday season, which we also offered in white for brides for their wedding events.
The floral high-low hem ball gown is a reimagined version of our signature dress -Zephyr. We love her in white but we wanted to elevate her and gave her a new spirit in a cheerful multicolored floral print.
Made-to-order is a unique approach in eveningwear. What are the advantages of this model for both the brand and your customers?
By producing only what is ordered, we eliminate overproduction and reduce waste, staying true to our commitment to ethical fashion. Also made-to-order reinforces the premium nature of our pieces, ensuring that every garment is thoughtfully crafted and unique to the individual.
For our conscious customers who support brands that value ethical and eco-friendly practices, investing in made-to-order eveningwear ensures a garment that is exclusive, high-quality, and crafted to last, elevating the overall experience.
What message do you hope this collection sends to your audience about the intersection of modern luxury and sustainability?
We want our audience to know that true luxury is thoughtful, intentional, and rooted in respect—for craftsmanship, individuality, and the environment.
Last but not least, any styling tips for the gowns in the collection, to give them a personal touch?
I would go with statement earrings for the pieces in the collection and ‘less is more’ to let the dress shine. The fun fact about the multicolored floral print is you have lots of options in terms of color of the shoe. We picked a pair of dark burgundy heels which brings out the burgundy color from the print at the same time. So have fun styling!
