Toronto officially has its very own après-ski-inspired retreat following the unveiling of the Kimpton Saint George Hotel’s magical Winter Chalet experience. This past holiday season, we were invited to take part in the latest Winter Chalet offerings available at the Kimpton Saint George Hotel, so we have all the details about how guests can make the most out of their upcoming stay.
The VITA team had the opportunity to experience Chalet Day on December 21st, 2024, which highlighted an extended Social Hour from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. During this time, guests could enjoy mulled wine from Traynor Vineyards, light snacks, and personalized postcards from a calligraphy artist. Although Chalet Day has since passed, the Winter Chalet experience at the Kimpton Saint George Hotel is running until the end of January. As a result, we’re breaking down everything you need to know about how the lobby of this boutique hotel has transformed into a seasonal cozy winter escape that’s perfect for checking out during your next stay.
Located in the heart of the city along the lively Bloor Street cultural corridor, the Winter Chalet experience at the Kimpton Saint George Hotel welcomes guests with a nostalgic lobby ambiance complete with festive décor and classic holiday records. Brimming with warmth, charm, and delightful surprises, guests are greeted with a comforting atmosphere that fully embraces the season’s coziness.
When asked what inspired the creation of the Winter Chalet experience and how it reflects the hotel’s overall brand and atmosphere, General Manager Sean Muir explains that the Kimpton Saint George Hotel, “aims to create a warm and welcoming presence in our public space.” Elaborating on how the hotel’s focus on creating a living room atmosphere rather than just a lobby played into the inspiration, Muir states, “We pulled from chalet experiences in Ontario and throughout the country, as well as our personal holiday experiences—particularly those that felt cozy and inviting.” As a result, the hotel was able to create an environment where guests are encouraged to, “sit down, enjoy a hot cup of coffee, hot chocolate, or a glass of wine, and feel at home with friends and family,” says Muir. “That was our goal, and the team did a fantastic job bringing it to life.”
Guests can enjoy a range of seasonal festivities and treats at the Winter Chalet during their stay. For instance, morning visitors can fuel up with coffee flavored with festive syrups such as ‘Winter Spice’ and ‘Peppermint.’ They can also opt for a refreshing twist with lemon and cranberry-infused water.
Every evening, from 5 to 6 pm, guests are invited to cozy up by the fireplace in the lobby’s lounge area to sip complimentary wine and unwind in the hotel’s charming chalet setting. For a bit of added fun, guests are encouraged to engage in the Winter Chalet’s “Social Password,” where saying the secret phrase, “It’s Giving,” to the concierge can result in a secret holiday-themed prize. Muir describes the hotel’s tailored guest-centric approach as having a “surprise and delight mentality,” when it comes to developing these engaging experiences. “From a guest perspective, not knowing what you’ll experience at a Kimpton Hotel is half the fun,” says Muir. “When guests see our social password on one of our channels and wonder what the gift may be, these types of unique touch points add value and individuality to our brand and hotel.”
In true après-ski spirit, there is also a hot chocolate station, featuring marshmallows, crumbled candy canes, and chocolate wafers, which boasts a standout feature for guests to indulge in.
It’s time to kick off 2025 at the Kimpton Saint George Hotel and treat yourself to the establishment’s exclusive Winter Chalet experience. With its inviting atmosphere, central location, and pet-friendly policy, this boutique hotel offers the perfect winter retreat for guests seeking both relaxation and festive fun this season. Whether you’re looking to unwind by the fire or enjoy unique seasonal activities, the offerings available at the Winter Chalet experience will be the cherry on top of your next stay in the city. —Samantha Vecchiarelli
