Chef Series: A Feast for the Senses: Food is at the heart of Lunar New Year, and Metropolis at Metrotown is bringing culinary magic to the Grand Court with its first-ever Chef Series (February 2 and 9). Four celebrated BC chefs will take the stage, sharing dishes inspired by their heritage and culinary philosophies.
Traditional Lion Dance & Interactive Workshop: Kick off the festivities with a vibrant Lion Dance on February 1. Dancers will parade through the shopping centre, accompanied by the God of Fortune distributing red envelopes filled with special offers. You can also join a “Learn How to Lion Dance” workshop (February 1, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) that’s open to all ages and skill levels.
Cultural Workshops with the Chinese Canadian Museum: Dive into tradition with free workshops hosted by the Chinese Canadian Museum (February 6 to 9, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.). Activities include learning the abacus, creating family tree colouring sheets and lantern making.
Dumpling Eating Contest: On February 2, cheer on contestants as they devour as many dumplings as possible! Think you’ve got what it takes? Register for your chance to win and claim the dumpling-eating crown.
Traditional Art & Crafts: Celebrate the Lantern Festival by creating your own Chinese lanterns from red pockets or practising calligraphy with a local artist. These creative activities are perfect for all ages and add a personal touch to the celebrations.
