Skinfix is changing the skincare game once again with the launch of the Exo + Ectoin Intensive Repair Baume—a revolutionary, exosome-powered balm designed to visibly regenerate skin, smooth wrinkles, and reduce redness. This innovative formula, inspired by dermatologists’ post-procedure healing balms, is the first product at Sephora to combine growth factor peptides and exosomes, making it a must-have for sensitive skin.
We caught up with Skinfix Founder & CEO Amy Gordinier to talk about this game-changing launch, why exosomes are the future of skincare, and how the barrier+ lineup continues to push boundaries in skin health. —Noa Nichol
What inspired the development of the Exo + Ectoin Intensive Repair Baume, and how does it align with Skinfix’s mission of supporting skin barrier health?
As with many of our products, the Exo + Ectoin Intensive Repair Baume was inspired by a tip-off from our dermatologist friends. Derms love pre-and post-procedure balms. They’re their secret weapon to ensure patients heal well and get the best results from their in-office treatments.
These balms are packed with soothing, calming ingredients—but the best ones also have something extra. Something that could work with an in-office treatment (say, professional microneedling, for example) to amplify its effects and sustain them over time. At conferences where derms share research and information, I learned that the secret ingredient was exosomes.
For Skinfix, part of being a total skin nerd is staying up with the latest and being ahead of trends—it took us years to find a vegan version (because the ones derms have been using are human-derived—Exo Baume’s exosomes are biomimetic phospholipids with bitter melon).
This Baume combines biotech-derived delivery systems (like exosomes) and novel ingredients (like ectoin)—the kind of ingredients you’d usually just find in a dermatologist’s office. Plus, it contains the highest level of our patented BL3 barrier technology to help support and improve barrier health—delivering 16x more growth factors than our Triple Lipid-Peptide Cream.
Can you explain the role of exosomes in the formula and why they’re a groundbreaking addition to the skincare market?
Exo Baume is the first product at Sephora to leverage exosomes for a renewed complexion.
In the body, exosomes are nanoparticles that package biosignals for export. In other words, they act as important messengers between cells, protecting and transporting the body’s natural messages. The exosomes carry instructions, and when they reach their target receiver, they drop off those instructions—in this way, cells form a complex network and keep the body’s processes running smoothly.
In regenerative medicine, you might see stem-cell derived exosomes. But for topical cosmetic skincare, chemists can also isolate exosomes from plant sources or create plant-derived biomimetic exosome capsules in a lab. The exosomes act as an ingredient delivery system, making sure it’s precisely delivered to where it can be used best, to get you the best results.

How does Skinfix’s B-L3™ complex of vegan growth factor peptides enhance the effectiveness of the Exo Baume?
The vegan growth factor peptides in B-L3™ (Skinfix’s patented ingredient complex) visibly improve wrinkles and elasticity while supporting skin recovery. Essentially, growth factor peptides are proteins that act as messengers, signaling cells to repair or regenerate.
Naturally found in the body, they were initially human-derived for use in medicine. Over 30 years, researchers have created cosmetic ingredients that mimic these natural growth factors—Exo Baume includes five of these peptides.
Ectoin, arnica, and allantoin play a significant role in soothing skin—can you elaborate on how these ingredients work together to improve recovery and hydration?
The last key element of Exo Baume is our Recovery Complex, which is actually a blend of three unique skin-soothers:
- Allantoin – Moisturizing, smoothing, and healing properties; used as a skin protectant.
- Arnica – Enhances suppleness and soothes irritation.
- Ectoin – A natural compound found in bacteria that live in extreme environments (hot springs, salt lakes, deserts) that protects skin from dehydration.
With so many products claiming to target wrinkles and redness, what sets Exo Baume apart from other skincare solutions?
Exo Baume is the first product at Sephora to leverage exosomes for a renewed complexion, and it’s also retinol-free, delivering similar results for those who cannot use retinol due to sensitivity, pregnancy, or allergies.
Unlike high-powered serums you might have tried before (or anything you’re used to layering under your moisturizer), this product feels rich and instantly comforting. It’s silky and lightweight, but rich—like a cashmere blanket.
Post-procedure exosome balms at a dermatologist’s office can cost $200 or more—we wanted to make sure we were creating a solution that our community could afford to work into their everyday routine.
The product is both vegan and cruelty-free—how important are these values to Skinfix, and how do they influence product development?
Derms abide by a promise to “do no harm”, and it’s a promise we make to our customers too.
Skinfix is a cruelty-free company, and we proudly display PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies logo.
All Skinfix products are vegan, and we search hard for plant-derived ingredients and biotech processes like fermentation to ensure superior stability, safety, and efficacy.
How do you recommend incorporating the Exo Baume into a daily skincare routine, and are there specific skin types or conditions it’s particularly suited for?
Exo Baume is formulated for all skin types but is especially perfect for winter skincare and dry, depleted skin.

What were some of the challenges in formulating a product that balances clinical efficacy with safety for sensitive skin?
Many pre- and post-procedure balms are only available through dermatologists and are very expensive. We wanted to create something that was accessible and could be used as part of an everyday skincare routine.
The clinical results for Exo Baume are impressive—can you share more about the testing process and feedback from users?
Instrumental Testing Highlights:
- 100% of subjects showed significant improvement in fine lines and wrinkles after 4 and 8 weeks.
- 95% saw long-lasting hydration.
- 100% said their skin feels soft, soothed, and healthier.
What excites you most about the future of Skinfix, and can we expect more innovative products like the Exo + Ectoin Intensive Repair Baume in the coming years?
We’re continuously innovating and looking for the newest, safest ingredient advancements. Our goal is to make our skincare effective, accessible, and deeply personal, helping customers feel as confident in their skin as they do in themselves.
