How do you use your platform to impact those who follow you?
I’ve always been so curious about our many restaurants and food options here in Vancouver. When I started my page, it was to share my experiences of eating—whether at home or at a restaurant. Almost 10 years later (and now with a child), it’s so fun to share, yes, foods, but also family-friendly activities and must-have products that I use in my day-to-day life.
What’s your personal style mantra/philosophy?
Two mantras have always helped me through the small and big decisions in life. First, positivity is key; I always try to look at the positive in every situation, no matter what. Second, treat others how you want to be treated; my mom taught me this and it’s something I will teach my kids, too. This can manifest in many ways, whether it’s giving a friend or family member a thoughtful gift for a milestone or celebration, donating money, clothes or food to those less fortunate, or simply choosing loving words to say on a daily basis to your loved ones when it’s been a long day.
Happy Lunar New Year! What’s your favourite thing about this time of year—and how do you celebrate with family and friends?
Low key, actually! My family and I will order in barbecue meats from restaurants like The One BBQ on Victoria Drive (the Devil’s Char Siu is drool-worthy; everyone at the table is always fighting for the last piece), make our own soup, rice and vegetables, and have dinner at home. When it comes to friends, we give red envelopes to their kids—and this year our daughter will get to receive them, too!
It’s the Year of the Snake: what animal sign were you born under?
The pig! And I always thought it was so fitting, because I love food! Actually, I am surrounded by snakes: my husband, sister and dad are all snakes!
What are your wishes for the New Year?
Prosperity during harder economic times than usual, especially while living in expensive places like Vancouver or Toronto; good opportunities in work and in life; and lots of special, memorable times as a family, as our daughter turns one this year!
What’s your top gift pick for Lunar New Year 2025?
For kids, books, from West Coast Kids and Indigo, are a great way to teach about the many traditions. For, well, myself, this special-edition Lululemon hoodie is already in my cart!
