We caught up with Christy Caza, Senior Product Development Manager at Fable, to learn more about the inspiration behind these planters, how they solve a major plant parent struggle, and what’s next for Fable’s home collection. —Noa Nichol
Fable’s Indoor Planters are designed to address the common issue of overwatering. Can you share how the idea for this innovative drainage system came about and what makes it different from traditional planters?
As part of our design process, we always engage with customers. Their feedback highlighted a common issue with existing planters: poor drainage. Many either lack a proper drainage system or have shallow trays that fail to capture excess water effectively. To solve this, Fable’s planters feature a deep tray to prevent overspill and a central channel that improves airflow—both crucial for keeping plants healthy.
Craftsmanship plays a key role in Fable’s products. What inspired the decision to have these planters crafted in Portugal, and how does this influence their quality and design?
We partnered with our established stoneware creators in Portugal, renowned for their expertise in ceramic craftsmanship. Stoneware was chosen for its outstanding durability and non-porous qualities once glazed, ensuring long-term stain resistance. This material also enables precise detailing on the planter’s interior, allowing for an easy nested fit between the top planter and its tray, enhancing both functionality and design.
The planters feature a premium matte glaze and hand-finished detailing. How do these design elements enhance both the aesthetic and functional aspects of the collection?
