This month, the Calgary Stampeders are going head-to-head with more than just football rivals—they’re taking on hunger. In partnership with Purolator Tackle Hunger, the team will host their annual Game Day Food Drive on Saturday, August 23, during their home game against Saskatchewan at McMahon Stadium.
In the lead-up to game day, Stampeders players, Purolator Tackle Hunger champions, and Calgary Food Bank representatives will roll up their sleeves at the Calgary Food Bank on Wednesday, August 13, to help sort donations. Last year’s Game Day Food Drive collected nearly 43,000 pounds of food for local families in need, and this year’s team is eager to top that.
The initiative is part of Purolator’s 20-year commitment to fighting food insecurity across Canada. Since its launch, the program has delivered more than 25 million pounds of food to food banks nationwide. With the combined support of Purolator employees, CFL teams, partners, and fans, the campaign continues to make a major impact in communities from coast to coast.
Fans attending the August 23 game are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items or make a monetary donation. Together, Calgary can prove that tackling hunger is a team sport. —Vita Daily
