New Eats: Kadbanu

September 19, 2014

kadbanuTrinity-Bellwoods just scored the perfect little neighbourhood resto.

With lots of of light streaming in from the windows and skylights (and a charming patio to enjoy in warmer months), this pretty, 20-seat Persian café comes from Salome Mohyeddin, whose family also runs Banu on Queen. At Kadbanu, the fare includes homey dishes like tahchin (baked rice best enjoyed alongside lentil and beef shank stew) and mirza ghasemi (a tomato and roasted eggplant dish topped with a fried egg). Dishes rotate with the seasons—how we’ll manage without the gorgeous and refreshing watermelon salad now that it’s fall, we do not know!

We now anticipate more treks to the westside; it is, after all, one of the world’s coolest hoods, according to Vogue. —Karen Kwan
