If you grew up in Vancouver—or just love a good throwback—you know the dome. But here’s a fun fact: that iconic geodesic sphere was never meant to stay. Built as the centrepiece for Expo 86, it was supposed to disappear after six months. Forty years later, it’s still here—and Science World is celebrating in the most nostalgic way possible.
This spring marks four decades since Expo 86 welcomed a staggering 22 million visitors to Vancouver, forever shaping the city’s identity (and skyline). Today, the former Expo Centre has evolved into one of BC’s most beloved cultural landmarks, welcoming millions of curious minds through its doors—and still sparking that same sense of wonder.
To celebrate, Science World is going full retro. Think a 40th anniversary display packed with vintage Expo memorabilia, plus a fresh drop of Expo 86 merch (yes, Expo Ernie is back and cuter than ever).
But the real vibe? It’s giving peak ’80s. On May 7, the adults-only Science World After Dark event is turning into a full-on retro playground, complete with a fully tricked-out 1981 DeLorean—flux capacitor and all.
Whether you remember Expo 86 firsthand or just love a little time-travel energy, this is your excuse to relive the magic—and maybe see the dome in a whole new light. —Noa Nichol

Celebrate the 40th anniversary of Expo 86 at Science World with a nostalgic exhibition featuring the iconic DeLorean and classic memorabilia.
What I liked about Mr Loanwala is their straight-to-the-point approach. No overpromises, just real solutions. I was initially unsure, but during the process, their team helped me understand how to structure my Personal Loan smartly instead of rushing into it. That level of clarity is rare. The turnaround time was quick, and communication stayed consistent. If you value clarity and efficiency over sales talk, they’re definitely worth considering.

Nostalgia hits hard seeing the Expo86 celebration and the DeLorean makes it even better. It’s amazing how Science World, once built for a temporary world’s fair, is still such an iconic part of Vancouver’s skyline.
