A Vintage Worth Celebrating: BC Wine’s Big Comeback Is Here

After years defined by uncertainty—freezes, wildfires, and disrupted harvests—British Columbia wine is entering a new chapter. And it’s a good one.

According to the newly released 2025 Vintage Report from Wine Growers British Columbia, this year’s wines are shaping up to be some of the strongest the province has seen in years—marking a moment of recovery, resilience, and, finally, reward.

The conditions tell the story. A mild winter, early spring, and long, steady growing season gave vineyards the time they needed to rebound, resulting in both healthy yields and high-quality fruit. The wines now arriving in tasting rooms, restaurants, and shops across the province are defined by balance, ripeness, and freshness—the kind of vintage that quietly reminds you just how good BC wine can be.

And there’s plenty to explore. In the Okanagan Valley, standouts include Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Riesling, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Viognier—each expressing the region’s signature clarity and structure. Over on Vancouver Island, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are shining in both still and sparkling expressions, while the Fraser Valley is gaining attention for aromatic and lesser-known varietals like Bacchus, Siegerrebe, and Gamay.

“After two very challenging years, 2025 is showing itself as a vintage of transition and rebirth for BC wine,” says Jenna Briscoe, DipWSET of This is Wine School. “Delivering both quantity and quality, it allowed wineries to refill their tanks with 100 per cent BC-grown wine and celebrate with confidence.”

It’s a meaningful moment not just for producers, but for consumers, too. As interest in supporting local continues to grow, this vintage offers a tangible way to do just that. “Every bottle of BC wine represents local jobs, family farms, tourism, hospitality, and communities across the province,” says WGBC President and CEO Jeff Guignard. “After everything this industry has endured, there’s something especially powerful about seeing a truly great BC vintage back on shelves and tables again.”

Whether you’re planning a weekend in wine country, ordering a glass with dinner, or picking up a bottle to share, the 2025 vintage is more than just a good year—it’s a reminder of what makes BC wine worth raising a glass to.
