Volkswagen’s New World Cup Flags Celebrate What It Means To Be Canadian

When it comes to the World Cup, many Canadians aren’t cheering for just one team—and that’s exactly what makes the tournament so special here.

According to new research commissioned by Volkswagen Canada, nearly 60 per cent of Canadians with heritage from another country say a single flag doesn’t fully represent their World Cup identity, while 84 per cent agree that multiculturalism is part of what makes Canadian soccer fandom unique.

So, what’s a fan to do when Canada is playing—but so is the country their family calls home?

Volkswagen has come up with a clever solution: a limited-edition collection of dual-sided car flags featuring Canada on one side and one of five heritage nations on the other. Designed to let fans proudly celebrate both parts of their identity, the flags are rolling out across Toronto neighbourhoods throughout the tournament, popping up in community hubs on featured match days.

It’s a simple but meaningful reminder that, in Canada, cheering for two teams isn’t divided loyalty—it’s part of who we are. —Noa Nichol
