Lunch At L’Abattoir

October 17, 2014

l'abattoirL’Abattoir in Gastown has mastered uncomplicated singularity.

It’s flawlessly designed, airily sophisticated and provides warmly inconspicuous service—all components of atmospheric perfection. We’re pleased, then, that the resto has just announced it will be open for lunch (and we hear brunch is coming, too), with midday offerings like steelhead trout and potato salad and pudgy auburn tortellini stuffed with squash and served with chanterelles and shatter-crisp sage. Fluffy, dill-speckled crab cakes and an indulgent beef dip served on warm, sweet bread make for a prime lunch, especially when followed by a custardy slice of lemon tart, creamy beneath a bruléed sugar top. Don’t skip drinks; the Aperol spritz, served in a glass bottle with a citrus wedge and plastic straw, is our new orange crush.

Want L’Abattoir all to yourself? Understandable. Their new private dining area is available for special events. —Adrienne Matei
