Health & Beauty

Technically, you only need a pair of sneakers to start running, but now more than ever runners worldwide are stepping up their running style. Not only is your coordinated fit as key as hitting your target pace, but so is your whole look, from your hair and face down to your fingernails. All the running girlies will tell you that anything that makes you feel good for your run, like glitter freckles, will make you run better. But your running-girl era calls for a specific routine that’ll stand up to the sweat and elements. These products and tools will help you look gorgeous and as though you’ve barely broken a sweat when you cross that finish line. —Karen Kwan

SKINCARE

For some runners, it’s not so much a healthy glow you experience post-workout, but a red-faced flush.  Keep a mist on hand to freshen up and alleviate the blotchy look. Thayers Rose Petal Facial Mist ($18) will calm visible redness and also cool your skin. Three Ships Take Five ($28) is a hypochlorous acid balancing mist that you can use on both your face and body to both soothe skin and help defend against bacteria.

As you get all of the rest you need for your training, use the time spent on recovery to get glass skin. Skinceuticals P-TIOX Cream ($225) works on static wrinkles and visible pores with a brand-exclusive complex, Myrixin, that’s likened to delivering Botox-like results.

Get multitasking! You might as well work on improving skin tone and texture, the look of fine lines and acne and more while you’re doing static post-run stretches (we’ve even seen people wearing light-therapy masks while working out on a vibration plate). TheraFace Mask Glo ($499.99), which combines red, blue and infrared technology and delivers a full-face treatment in just 12 minutes. Silk’n takes it a bit further with not only its LED Face Mask 100, but  Silk’n LED Neck Mask ($179), and with the neck being a part of the body runners expose so often to the elements, it could use some TLC.

BODY & SUNCARE

A regular running routine means you’ll be showering more than ever. Naturium The Calmer Ceramide Body Wash ($20.90) has a combo of ceramides, colloidal oatmeal, allantoin and cocoa butter that’ll support your skin barrier as you put your body (and skin) through its paces.

Training through the summer equals a ton of sun exposure, calling for being extra diligent with your sun protection. We love how quick Ombrelle Sport SPF 50 Sunscreen Spray ($26.79) is to apply and it’s sweat- and water-resistant.  If you prefer a mineral sunscreen, new Blue Lizard Sheer Face SPF 50 Lotion ($22.99) is a vegan, fragrance-free option that is so lightweight, you may forget you’ve got it on. For quick reapplication on the go, tuck Shiseido Ultra Sun Protector Clear Stick SPF 50+ ($43) into your running vest so you can quickly and easily slick on some more while you’re out logging distance.

Almost every runner has experienced the burn from chafing. Prevent that skin irritation with a smooth balm wherever that rub has been known to lead to chafe. Swipe on some Bushbam Friction Fix Serum Stick ($24) to help prevent that uncomfortable skin irritation.

FACE

Nail your race photos with a perfectly done face. Start with your foundation: water-based Make Up For Ever Balancing & Perfecting Foundation ($66.50) delivers buildable coverage that lets your natural glow shine through. If you’re looking for something with lighter coverage, Lancome Skin Idole 3 Serum Supertint ($60) helps keep your skin hydrated thanks to niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and vitamin E, and gives your skin just the right touch of luminosity

To even out skin tone and hide imperfections, NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer ($48) is runfluencer Karen Sarahi Robles (@iluvsarahii) holy grail for her race-day face for its lightweight finish. Can’t leave the house without contour? Take a cue from running influencer Nicole Sheridan (@nicosheri). She adds dimension to her face for race day with Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Liquid Contour Wand ($59.50).

Yes, when you’re on the run, you’re rocking a natural glow, but if you want to turn up the colour a bit, Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dewy Flush ($34) is both soothing and smoothing and delivers the most pretty glow-from-within look.

You need to help your makeup got the distance. Using a setting spray is non-negotiable when you’re doing a race-day face. A quick spray of L’Oreal Paris Infallible 3-Second Setting Mist ($23.29) dries fast and locks down your look while being breathable and lightweight.

LIPS

Start off with protecting your pucker first. We never head out the door for a workout without Bondi Sands SPF 50+ Lip Balm Toasted Coconut ($7.99) for its super nourishing formula.

Maintaining the perfect pout mile after miles calls for a long-lasting formula. Sheridan, Robles and content creator Brooke Monk (@brookemonk) all swear by Sacheu Lip Liner Stay-N ($18) for its staying power. For a budget-friendly lip colour (you can pick up and play around with every shade at this price), E.L.F. Main Stain Lip Marker ($6) delivers great staying power for workout days. Prefer a bolder, high-pigment look that won’t budge even after many gels and hydration breaks? I personally swear by Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick ($13.99) for my race-day look.

EYES

Don’t risk looking like a raccoon by the end of your run–make waterproof or tubing mascara your go-to if you’re going out for a jog. Sheridan’s fave is Maybelline Lash Sensation Waterproof Mascara ($13.99). Tubing mascara lovers who run will want to try E.L.F. Cosmetics Lash XTNDR Mascara ($10) for its lengthening, long-lasting wear. Prefer to wear falsies? The pre-bonded KISS imPRESS Press-On Falsies Eyelash Clusters ($28.98) are easy to use and are made with a water-repelling formula so they will stay put through your sweat and any rainy day conditions.

Monk looked pretty flawless after completing the New York City Marathon. What kept her brows perfectly groomed? NYX Brow Glue Instant Brow Styler ($12.97) has a non-sticky format that locks brows into place.

Habit-stack and care for your delicate undereye area as you update your running journal. The Grace & Stella Moisturizing Eye Mask ($4.98) is beloved for its plumping, hydrating properties.

HAIR

You’ve applied sunscreen to your body and an SPF lip balm, but have you protected the top of your head? If you’re running without a cap or bandana on, your scalp gets a ton of sun exposure while you’re in training. Sun Bum Scalp & Hair Mist SPF 30 ($20.99) will keep your skin protected without making your hair greasy.

Going for a sleek ponytail for your run-day look? JVN Perfect Styling Stick ($24.50) will become your essential hair product before a run for eliminating flyaways and keeping frizz under control.

NAILS

You’ve got the coordinated fit–now complete the look right down to your fingernails. Although we are partial to nail-art manis from the pros when it comes to races, for day to day, the new two-step system Gel by essie Liquid Diamonds Collection ($12.96) keeps nails gorgeous with a high-gloss finish–no UV light required.
