10 Things to Do in Calgary This June

Summer officially arrives this month—here’s how to make the most of it. —Sara Samson

1. Theatre Calgary’s Shakespeare by the Bow returns this month to Prince’s Island Park with evening performances of the Bard’s classic comedy, As You Like It.

2. The 4th Street Lilac Festival always feels like the unofficial kickoff to summer; this massive street party includes food vendors, musical performances and family-friendly events.

3. Laugh til your abs hurt at the FunnyFest Calgary Comedy Festival, which features 11 nights of comedy performances, and workshops and seminars.

4. The city comes alive during the Sled Island Music & Arts Festival, with musical performance, art exhibits and film screenings at various venues around Calgary.

5. Makes sense that a neighbourhood packed with amazing restaurants and eateries would host its own festival—the Kensington Foodie Festival features beer tastings, special dinners and more over five days.

6. The Calgary Night Market is back, this time taking over the Southcentre Mall parking lot with food vendors, live entertainment and goods from local artisans.

7. Check out Granary Road when it opens later this month—this massive indoor/outdoor complex features a farmers’ market, restaurant and lots of family-friendly activities.

8. Head just south of the city for the first-ever Okotoks Film Festival—this three-day fest features local and international films alongside workshops and kid-friendly screenings.

9. BeerGuysYYC are hosting the first annual YYCBeerWeek—expect tastings, events, workshops and lots of beer (duh) at local breweries and participating restaurants.

10. Jump around on a bouncy castle, eat delicious barbecue from celebrity chef Roger Mooking and listen to live entertainment at the TELUS Spark’s 50th Birthday Bash.
